Lately on cold mornings, my 05 with 59K has a really loud engine tapping noise when I first start it until it warms up. I think it's the same usual tapping noise that all of these engines including mine have, but is it normal for it to be louder on cold morning starts? Cold starts later in the day after the truck has been sitting for hours, but when the outside temp is warmer, are okay.
unfortunately like you said, that noise is normal to our tacos..... it shouldn't be but it is. my truck is louder when it's cold out on a cold start. It almost sounds like the manifold ticking noise when the gasket is blown out or the manifold is cracked but if they're coming from the factory like this then i can only assume it's not that. I've read before that replacing the manifold or putting on headers will eliminate this noise, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
when i first got my 06 i noticed that same sound on cold starts. as soon as i switched to synthetic no more noise. regular oil is cold, thick and doesn't circulate the engine quickly until it warms up. synthetic isn't affected by the cold temp as much and therefore begins circulating more easily and quickly. it's all about the lube!!!!!!!!

I heared the tick clearly today, now thats it's a bit colder out I guess.I drove slowly and waited for it to go away but then forgot about it. My mechanic uses AMSOIL in my truck and OEM filter. Not really worried . 26,000 mi
I don't know about you guys, mine doesn't sound like the manifold. it sounds more like the rocker arms sticking or hitting on something, i would describe it as sounding like a bag of ass. had my local dealership check it out, and they told me its "normal valve-train noise".
only good thing is that they washed it for me free of charge.
(10,200 miles and growing!) probably of no help to you seeing as how mine is still *new*... but like canddmeyer said, use synthetic oil. i did and i've barely heard it at all.
