Warranty Refund?

When I bought my truck back in '06, they sold me up on the 100k warranty. I thought I remembered them saying if I didn't use the warranty within 24 months, I could get a refund. But I can't find any documentation of that, and it sounds too good to be true. Anybody know anything about Toyota doing this? Also, if this is in fact for real, I assume if I cash in on it, I don't get to keep the warranty for the rest of the mileage, correct?

Best bet would be to contact your salesman or customer service at your dealership.

I am very skeptical that Toyota would allow you to cash in a warranty that you did not use. I am even more skeptical that you can cash in a warranty before its expiration and still have warranty coverage.

I would think a lack of documentation on the matter was your first clue...

Canada

My extended warranty (Canadian truck, '09) indicated that it could be refunded withing 60 days, so two months, not two years.

It's also partially refunded proportionate to the time left if the vehicle is totaled before the warranty's up if, unused, I think.

You can cancel for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.
You can cancel anytime up to the expiration of the warranty term with it being pro-rated minus a $50 admin fee. Your selling dealer should be able to pull up the info, you can cancel through them or directly to Toyota Extended Warranty.
I did this with a Tundra I traded in but you can do it at any time, even if you still own the truck as long as your mileage is within the contract term.

Yes, if you cash in, you're back to the standard warranty. About their promise and because it's been so long, if it's not on paper, it didn't happen. I gave up my 100k warranty at 25k so they prorated it to the amount used. I find that using the entire time (1 - 36k was stupid) but what can you do? I got enough back to be happy with the situation.

My warranty is completely refundable if it goes unused. I just have to fill out a paper and send it in 30 days before the expiration of the warranty and they will refund the entire purchase price. Finance guy highlighted the section for me and wrote the date down that I have to have the paperwork sent in by.

This is true. For a 100K mile warranty, it usually reads in there that you have x number of days to file for the refund when you hit the max mileage mark or x number of months (whichever completes the warranty coverage) assuming you haven't used it at all.

If you sell the vehicle or trade it in, they pro-rate it as if you used it from day 1 (even when it was covered under the 3/36 factory warranty).

Personally, I didn't know you could request a pro-rated refund just for the heck of it. I'll take everyone's word for it on that.

Interesting. That's good to know. I'll have to go through all my paperwork again and see if I can find that section. Thanks!

Is this the Toyota platinum extended warranty or extra care or something? If so that is a great warranty!!
My Toyota Platinum service agreement (7/100/0 from Troy that I just got in July before my 3/36 runs out) states this as far as cancelling

My warranty is third party, sold to me via the dealership. It is written by American Financial Warranty Corporation. I have the Ultra warranty. It cost me an arm and a leg, but I was banking on not having to use it and getting my $1,798 back. But if I use it for say a transfer case, front diff, or a tranny somewhere down the road it has still more than paid for itself...**knocks on wood**

I have not read to find out whether or not I can cancel at anytime, but I do know if I run it the full 8 yr/80,000 miles without using it I get my money back.

If I find I can cancel it before my 3/36 expires I will definitely be cancelling it and contacting Troy and purchasing a warranty from him!

EDIT: I found this on AFWC's website:

Quote:
How do I cancel my vehicle service contract?
1. You may cancel your VSC at any time by notifying your selling dealer in writing. Please advise your selling dealer of the date and mileage on your vehicle at time of cancellation.
2. If your request for cancellation is made within sixty (60) days of the contract sale date and no claims have been made, you will be entitled to a full refund.
3. If your request for cancellation is received after sixty (60) days from the contract sale date, or if you have filed claims, then the cancellation refund will be pro-rated. The pro-rata refund will be the greater usage of miles or months from the commencement of the contract term in relation to the maximum contract term, less the cancellation fee.
4. If you have any questions regarding your cancellation, please contact the AFWC Business Processing Department at 800-964-4811.
I will be cancelling, because after googling the third party company I found several horror stories regarding denied claims...Troy here I come!

If I can refund my warranty will I get the check or does it go to bank of loan for principal? ONny had the truck brand new for 14 days and will go with Troy, if possible.
