Code 1801

Well my SRS air bag warning light is on, hooked up the Scan tool and got the code : B1801. Tech (not dealer) told me it's an open circuit on the driver side. Didn't have time to look, I had to pick up my wife from work. Hope it's nothing serious.

That code means there's a problem with the circuit that controls the igniter (squib) for the driver's airbag. It could be a bad wire in the steering column or from the steering column to the airbag computer (the "center airbag sensor assembly"). More unlikely possibilities for the problem are the airbag or the computer.

I would think that the system is designed such that the airbag could not fire accidentally. However, the computer probably cannot tell the airbag to fire in this state.

Definitely get a dealer to look at it. As mentioned in another recent thread, airbags are part of the 5/60 powertrain warranty.

Just came in from the shop, well it's a broken Spiral Cable (clock spring). The part costs $200 and the dealer has to ship it in, it takes two weeks. Won't cause any major problems though, the airbag just won't deploy if I meet in a major accident. No warranty, I shipped the truck overseas.
