I have a driver's front bearing going out. It hums pretty loud but when I turn right at higher speed, the hum goes away.
I was thinking about getting the hub bearing assembly complete so I can avoid pressing the bearing into the hub. I figure the added cost is about a wash since I would have to pay a shop to press the old bearing out and the new one in. After looking, all I can find are the bearing assemblies without the hub.
IMO, due to some really stupid recent situations with MOOG suspension parts, tie rods on a Dodge Diesel, I'm leary of their products. IMO, OEM or Timkens. Timkens are all that I ever used on our (2) ZR2s as well as my wifes old Pontiac, trouble free, long lasting, never an issue.
When it comes to bearings, like tires, you get what you pay for. I'm with you on buying complete assemblies, that is how I have always done it and if it's a wash, worth it IMO.

You'll find some good information. Things like where people were finding them and which ones they went with (along with prices). I think the links were on page 2 or 3 in the thread. It'll give you something to consider or price comparisons.
You've still got to press that bearing assembly into the hub. I do not believe there is a way to buy the complete unit with no pressing required. What you are looking at buying is the entire bearing assembly which is the bearing and the housing.
This keeps you from having to press a bearing out and back in but does not keep you from having to press that entire bearing assembly into the hub.
The company referring to it as a hub assembly is meaningless.
If you're looking at a parts diagram for a 4wd then the hub, part 43502-04120, must be pressed into the bearing assembly part # 43570-04010.
I'm not trying to sound like a dick, I just don't want you to get that thing tore down and realize you can't get the hub off of the bearing assembly and back on again. This job requires a press period.
I'll also recommend that you change out the necessary seals and o-rings while you're in there or you'll be doing this again in about 10k miles. Ask me how I know.
If this is true, having to press no matter what, I was unaware. As I said, I have done this a bunch of times but on GM vehicles. Both of my hubs were changes on my Tacoma but both under warranty.

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to be lazy about pressing the hub into the bearing. I'll have to have a shop do the work as I don't have a press. I don't have an impact driver either, but I think I can rent one.

Time to buy a press.... a basic press is not expensive.
Thanks Mr.Reaper. That is a very good idea. Will save money on my next bearring replacement. Waiting for the passenger side to go. It has 165 000 kms on it.

My local parts guy pressed my hub out and pressed it back in the new bearing for $50...it really wasn't all that expensive. You gotta find a good guy to do it though.

When I get this back from the shop, do I just torque down the cv nut? It looks like the hub won't just slide onto the axle without some coaxing since it was a bit difficult to get the hub off the axle.

Yeah, it took me a while to get to it. It finally got loud enough to worry about. The bearing race was pretty galled up in a couple of spots. Putting it back together tonight.
Got some Weather Techs too.
