USA Hitch for prius

Can anyone tell me if they have put a trailor hitch on the 2005 prius? I just want to tow 500 lbs or less!! The car has more power than my old p/u. This is the best car i have ever owned!!

Towing...

First of all, I wouldn't tow anything with a Prius. Having said that, perhaps towing a 500 pound load will not cause you any problems.

I do have a receiver hitch on my Prius solely to carry a bike rack. I bought the receiver online from Coastaletech.com for around $150 plus shipping. It was a fairly easy installation that I did in about an hour. Coastaletech offers both 1 1/4 and 2 inch receivers. I read somewhere that the 2 inch can "bottom" out on a driveway that changes grade quickly.

What he said above :P

The hitches that are available are for bike and ski racks.

I have to tow with my Prius. It's my only vehicle other than my motorcycle. I see no problem towing with Prius if the trailer is light enough. Mine is about 250 lb empty. I'd tow up to 500 lb no problem. You figure that 3 people in your car weight that much. What's the difference?

They probably don't want you to tow AND carry 3 people. It's not recommended but I've heard of people towing on PriusChat.

jswp:

You've probably already seen this hitch from Coastal Electric Technologies...

http://www.coastaletech.com/04hitch.htm

I've just sent an email to ask them if it includes a tail light harness. I doubt it does or they would say so in the ad. I

If you find another hitch that includes the electrical harness, please let me know.

Thanks,
Steve
