electrical/gasoline smells while driving

Hello,

Does anyone smell electrical and/or gasoline while driving their Prius? When I excelerate quickly or sometimes for no apparent reason, I will smell a burning electrical smell. Other times I can smell gasoline vapor in the car. This is a 2005 Prius.

I took it to the dealer, who could not recreate or solve the problem. Now I'm taking it to another dealer who said if they can not recreate the smell, or see it on their computer, there is nothing they can do.

Does this mean I'm stuck with is burning electrical smell -- that can not be good. And I'm very frustrated.

Something wrong with the electric motors? That's the only thing I can think of that might produce a burning smell when accelerating quickly.

I had a similar problem when I bought my 2006, but it only lasted for about 3-400 miles. I attributed it to being a "new" electrical motor smell (preservatives used to keep the engine in storage before install).

Anyhow I'm curious to know if your smell has abated.

yes the question is did it go away and about how many miles are on it now. Voltage leaks to the hv transaxle usually throw codes very quickly so the motors shouldn't be shorted, but still could be a heat issue. is this vehicle applicable to the most recent recall 50p i believe in which the ecu would ignore the resolver heat signal causing the motor generators to overheat. if this is the case an ecu reflash could fix ur problem. Dealer can run your vin for all applicable campaigns.
