I'm a prospective Prius buyer and am trying to decide which package to get. My choices based on what area I'm in are the HE and HG. The main difference I can see is no side airbags in the HE, $1K less. I don't have side airbags in my 1998 Camry and have gotten along fine, but I want to be safe. The safety ratings I have seen for the 06 Prius have all been stellar, but I'm curious to know whether that was in the model with or without side airbags, and if anyone has seen reviews that specify which models get the better ratings, if there are differences.

with side airbags. The one without side airbags faired poorer.
