Battery Life

My family is thinking about buying a prius in the upcoming year. My main concern is the life of the battery, because I know that they arnt cheap to replace. Can I safely assume that the battery will last past the 100,000/ 8 year warrenty?

Oh, definitely I think someone else had a similar thread on this topic, and one replyer mentioned that some Prius are used as taxis and have gone past 200,000 miles on their original battery. As for battery price, I hear that by the time the battery does run down it should cost a lot less for a replacement.

Yep. No HV battery has been replaced under warranty since the Prius came out in 1997. Right now, very few have to actually replace theirs but they're already way past 200,000 miles. You can get one off ebay or a salvage yard anywhere from $400 to $1000 and that's for the old Prius. The new one's lighter, cheaper, and more powerful. Besides, don't forget you don't have an automatic transmission fluid to replace, coolant that runs to 100,000 miles before its first (flush?), brakes that'll last you (depending on how you use it) till 100,000 miles (There's a guy on PriusOnline who has a 2001 Prius with 108,000 miles and had 75% brake pad life left).
