Garage Door Opener

I have a new Highlander Hybrid Ltd with 4WD and Nav (love it! about 400+ miles so far, and average of 26.2 mpg) ... but I can't get the vehicle's garage door opener to work, even pressing the button for 10 seconds or more. (It was programmed at the dealership, so it's not as if I did it wrong. I also programmed it again after I got home when I saw it wouldn't work.) I did the little test in the manual to see if I have a "rolling" door opener system, and it appears that I do. They have a procedure you can do which would involve tinkering with the opener mechanism on the garage ceiling ... and before I climb up there and attempt all that, I'm wondering if anyone else has done it and whether it worked for you. I don't want to screw up the garage door mechanism completely! Thanks in advance!

you don't have to tinker around. Just press the red "TEST" button at the back of the garage door opening mechanism. Then follow what the manual says for rolling code and you're done!

If you have a Genie opener, you need to climb up and push the button at the back of the opener and hurry down to the car to follow the setting procedure before it times out.

Cool Garage Door Opener Programming Trick

I just purchased a Highlander Hybrid and also had difficulty programming the built in garage door openers. I did discover the trick to make it work, though. The first thing you need to do is to simultaneously push the hand held garage door opener along with the the button within the car and hold it in for about 30 seconds. Eventually the one built in the car will start flashing slowly and then quickly. Once this has happened then you can program the rolling code with the learn button on the opener itself.

For some reason when these built in openers are new it doesnt have the ability to learn a rolling code until it has failed in an attempt at a non-rolling code.

I hope this helps?

I used your technique of door opener programming and it worked like a charm. Thank you most sincerely

It didn't work the first time I tried, but then I read in the manual to be sure the battery end of the garage door opener remote was facing away from the homelink button in the car. - then it worked perfectly! Thank you!

This seems to always confuse people including me. Every time I get a new car I dig out the manuals read them carefully and then tinker with the buttons for 15 minutes before I get it.

The manual is wrong, I had it working when I bought my chamberlain 2 weeks ago by going into this site.

tstein88 is right, you have to hold onto the homelink and wait for those flashes before the homelink is program with the remote's program, then have to press the learn key on the opener itself and the homelink to sync up.

So don't bother looking at the manual, the way they tell u how to program will take you eternity to make it work.

Thanks for the tip. It definitely worked. I purchased my Venza in September 2010 and had gotten frustrated because I couldn't get the garage door programmed. After reading the forum and trying the tip only one time it worked. I sat in the car yelling and celebrating my victory. I won finally after 5 months of failed attempts.

Even the Chamberlain instruction manual is incomplete. I recently installed a new Chamberlain and couldn't get either of my cars to operate it. I went online and found a couple of additional steps that had it working in no time.
