Question Disabling Traction Control

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable Traction Control for the 2WD?

disabling traction control

Likewise for the 4WD version! Toyota has been of no help on this issue. The system on my 4WD HH clamped down the brakes to the point of preventing me from going up a steep gravel mountain road last summer, forcing me to perform a dangerous process of backing down and turning around on the edge of a cliff.

NO traction control

same thing happened to me in snow on a hill...
instead of all wheel drive it was NO WHEEL DRIVE!

System shut down -- took 45 minutes to go 150 feet!

Worst experience EVER omn my hybrid.

I've raised heck with Toyota about this via email and all they would say is "Take your car to your dealer to make sure everything is operating normally." Obviously that would be a waste of time. It's a design issue having to do with the computerized control of the entire system and the fact that the wheels are all driven by electric motors under that computer control. I'm sure this is why Toyota has made their disclaimers that "The Hybrid is not intended for off-road use" ever more prominent in their advertising and web sites. Unfortunatetly, as you and I have found out, it is also not suitable for on-road use in some situations, right when you need it most!! When I told Toyota that their response was not satisfactory, there was no further reply from them. Maybe we do have to bombard the dealers with complaints before anything will happen. I would think that the computer could be reprogrammed to be more tolerant of wheel slip or be less aggressive with braking or something, but maybe not. It is a serious problem!
