Hybrid Charging System

Can anyone give me a rundown on how it works (how the 12v charges) and how much current I can draw off of the bat (for a stereo) without messing something up.

any info is appreciated

Aux Battery Current Draw

I can't say for sure, since the HH comes with a glass mat battery (recharge < 5A) and I don't have any Toyota technical documentation. But before my big "boom-boom" upgrade, I load tested mine, with the inverter on and off.

With the inverter off the battery tested out at ~35AH (limited loading). As an aside, if you load test it, like a standard 24 or larger LeadAcid battery, it will test at only ~15-20 A/hr!

With the inverter ON, battery voltage is fixed at 13.8V (since it is derived from the big battery) and at over 65A loading, I noticed no variation. Since this is what I needed for my amplifier, I stopped there. Note, don't even think of drawing that kind of current without the inverter on though. The cheesy battery they use will just dry out. Fortunately, it isn't that hard to modify the battery mounting bracket to fit a real auxiliary battery in there...

Bottom line is that Toyota doesn't expect the battery itself to supply much power, rather, it is primarily used to stabilize the electronic converter- and to run the standby electronics when the car is parked and off.

If anybody else has any REAL technical details, I'd love to hear them. In particular on the inverter ratings... Thx!
