VSD/Hybrid System Messages

Last night I experienced the same symptoms of a problem with my HiHy Ltd (now at 6K miles). Traveling about 70mph on a limited-access highway with cruise control on, cruise control disengages, VSD warning message alternating with Hybrid System warning message, check engine light comes on with other warning and info lights. This same situation occurred previously at around 4K miles under ther same circumstances. That time, I was at an exit and was able to pull off to a safe location right away.

Previous problem was diagnosed by the dealership as a battery sensor. The part had to be ordered. They reset the info module and said it was OK to drive in the interim. The sensor was replaced two weeks later (that was about 2 months ago).

This time, I traveled another 5 miles to try to get to an exit. As I reached the exit, the engine shut down completely - no drive power. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off to begin looking for the Toyota emergency number. Before calling, I decided to try to turn the vehicle on. It started. The VSD message was gone but the Hybrid System message, check engine and info lights remained (same as last time). I was able to drive the remaining 15 miles home this way without incident.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've searched for info on whether this is a known problem but was unable to find anything. This is my first Toyota after 15 years of Subarus. I really like the Highlander but this is getting frustrating. I'm afraid to take the thing on vacation.
