Does anybody know what GEN / Version navigation system comes in a 2006 Highlander Hybrid Limited? I have been trying to see if there is any updates for my HiHy, but I can't find solid information.
oooh... it's on the borderline btwn the Gen 4 and when the Gen 5 came out. My guess would be Gen 4 since I remember the Energy/Consumption screen are similar to the 04/05 Prius.

After I asked I went back into the GPS system screen (through the volume screen) and selected the version button. It gave me 04.05.01. Is this Gen 4, Version 05-01? If so, can I upgrade the DVD to gen 5 or 6? Or what is the latest version for Gen 4? Roads and POIs change so much in Phoenix that it seems like its getting outdated.
If you find out how to update the '06 HiHy navigation system, let us know. I understand you can purchase the newest disk for $200, but there must be another (cheaper) way.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply.
It's version 4. You can't upgrade the "system" since it's dependent on the screen. (The Gen 5 ones have the new high resolution screen).
You can still update the discs (latest one is 7.1) but it'll still be displayed in your gen 4 screen. Think of it as windows. You have XP and the latest one is Vista (but unlike Vista, the Gen 5 is betetr tahn the gen 4 ). You can upgrade the XP with service packs and stuff but it's still an XP (replace with tiger and leopard if you're a mac user)

Unless you bribe the parts manager or can get it at cost price, I don't see any other legal way.

Got it, but one more question... I downloaded a different version dvd and burned it to a DL dvd. when I inserted the new disc it upgraded the firmware on my system. After that the nav didn't work well, and the secret screen with the overide was gone. I had to remove the unit and short the backup battery for a moment to upload the original firmware using my original factory disc. This overide is important because I am using a LockPick for video input and overide. Am I locked into not upgrading the map disc so as to not loose that overide function?
THANKS!!

Yep. I think... disc version 6.1 was the one that removed the screen lockout. I thought the lockpick would work regardless of disc version?? It's only if you're using the secret screen that the disc version would matter

Actually I don't think Lockpick is working on 7.1, but perhaps ask the Coastal Tech guys.
Later!
Dang
Edit:
Went and looked myself, and they only talk about the 6.1 disk. If you watch their video, they are basically doing the override trick, which, since that doesn't appear to work in 7.1 might be a bad sign.
I guess I'd have to decide which is more important... being able to use the locked out functions while driving or having updated nav data base. I'd probably like to keep the functionality of the overide for now. The lockpick should work no matter what version nav. It sure was worth the $$ since I can plug my video ipod directly to the car now.
THANKS!!!
