Highlander Hybrid gas filling problem

I have a new Highlander Hybrid and am unable to fill gas tank without nozzle clicking off thirty or more times. Doesn't seem to matter what angle or distance.

Filling gas

Hi ... I used to have this problem with my '96 Camry and found that I had to pump the gas at the slowest setting (there are usually 3 I think). My HH does not have this problem but the same approach may help.

looks like you dont need more gas!

I would try other pumps and what not to see if it makes a difference. worse comes to worse take it back to the dealer. there shouldnt be any special way to fill it.

alot of the scions that toyota was selling had the same problem. Its like you have to move the gas nozzle around alot to get the pump to work. I think the scions had a recall on this gas pump problem. check with the dealer and see if there is any tsb's on the problem.

Try filling without the nozzle all the way in.

Im glad Im not the only one with this problem, I have a 98 camry and its annoying as hell, When you go to tell anyone about it they always say man just pull the nossel out a little etc ... and so on but its not the case. I even had my old man try it and he was puzzled also. Im hoping it nothing expensive but I figure next oil change ill get them to take a look at it unless someone has an answer before i do go...

HH Gas Tank Problem

Here's hoping (for yr sake) it's just a fluke. But check my own forum entry ("Toyota Highlander Hybrid gas tank Problem") to compare: in my case, a previous filling (by gas station attendant) apparently overfilled the tank (by topping off) and caused some internal damage preventing gas from being pumped in after that. Problem cost me $1,700 to fix! (Am still trying to get Toyota to reimburse me under the warranty.)
Good luck!

Same problem - different solution

We have a 2006 Highlander Hybrid with the same filling issue, but I just happened to stumble onto a somewhat solution. If the gas pump you're using keeps clicking off, then just turn the power on in the car to the accessories setting (not all the way on - don't start the car) and this seems to prime your gas line and the clicking issue goes away for this fill up.

I've also had this problem in my Acura TL. It does not always happen, it may just be the sensitivity of the pump. I have not yet re-filled my HHY...
