Hey, I'm getting the pics scanned tonite, so they should be up by tomorrow..
For me the day went awesome...minimal brake fade, kept me on the track for sometimes 5-10 laps with little or no break in between! Just stopped by the pits to pick up a new passenger then off we go!
I tried a new set-up that works great...I disconnected the front swaybar and did the 3.5 link rear end (as per Bill Sherwood's explanation). The car has less tendency to understeer at the entrance to a turn.
I barely used the brakes, but to get enough weight over the front wheels to grip...to this date, I've logged the personal best times this session.
Some of the notably quick cars was of course Kenneth in his AE86, as well as Vivek from Image Racing in his ZC powered EF Civic!
We had a great time, and look for more track events next year... =)
i had fun. it was my first...i was de-virginized....i feel violated!!! hahaha. I guess alot of the guys weren't too pleased with my failed drifting attempts...and i appologize to them....but it was humbling yet insightful. makes me just want to keep practicing and practicing....finding the best setup for myself. prolly take it to city streets so i can reduce my John Deer rime at the tracks....got some wide open, twisty back roads near my house to go nuts on.
Mechanically, that day just reitterated the fact that toyota makes bullet proof engines. despite all the mishaps, nothing was effected. brakes were solid all day...no fade. no over heating...mind you it was about 3 degrees and the diff and tranny stayed in tack....no synchros were left in the midfield. however, there are points that i now know needs to be adressed. During the winter, the koo-koo will undergo spot welding joints, 6 point roll cage, hts dampers, coil conversion for the front and kg/mm springs in the rear. additional strut braces and sway bars will be installed too. hopefully by the end of next summer, i will have the koo-koo built like a true japanese drift machine.
yes lsd is a must!!!!!! talked to migs and he said the difference is night and day...and he's only using oem. well then a gain, oem, trd and cusco same diff...no pun intended.
if you're going to japan for the tokyo auto salon, grab some TRD 2-way LSD's.. those seem to be the most commonly used there, so they seem to be quite available used
i see them on yahoo japan auctions for about 200-400$ CAD, and that's installed into the 3rd member
