Factory Roof Rack or After Market?

I looking to buy an XB with the only option being the roof rack. Which are better, the factory one or going with an After Market one?

Hi,

When I checked on the same thing, I was told by two dealers that there wasn't a factory roof rack. They sold the Yakima one. I did a web search for a rack and got a hit only to discover that it was a Springfiled, MA Scion dealer and he was offering the Yakima.

I do know that Thule has one that is supposed to be designed for the Scion and that may be what I select since I have the canoe carriers and some pretty old cross bars for it.

If you should find out that there is a "Scion made" rack please let me know.

Cool, I just picked up my XB Friday. I got a no-option one so I glad to hear that I can still get a roof rack.

Roof Rack for XB

I did a little research on roof racks and found that J C WHITNEY has many. The one I liked was one that looked like original equipment ie, it has two side rails and two cross rails with 4 strips for the roof and it comes in different lengths and widths. Whitney also has installers in your areato install, simply by entering your zip code. This will bring up auto shops who will do the work and the price. Do not know how locked in the price of the labor is though.
The question is are these riveted onto the top of the XB as I think they are and if so how can one be sure they do not leak over time? Hope this helps. They are not too expensive, under $100. Dan
