Unhappy Blue oil light on Scion xA

i have a 2005 Scion xA and lately when i start my car after it has been sitting for awhile the blue oil light is on for the first couple of minutes of driving. During the time that the light is on my car really under performs. once the light shuts off everything is normal. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Thanks.

Thats normal read the manual. It indicates the motor is still cold, it has nothing to do with Oil.

Acutally the blue light isn't an OIL light at all. It is a tempurature light. It basically replaces your temp guage. It is very normal for it to shift hard and rev higher when the light is on. If the red light comes on it means that it is over heating, not that the oil is low. Just thought I should clarify that.

additionally, when the engine is cold the car does perform a little less. apparently, this is to protect itself from damage while the oil is down in the pan. you will also notice the car doesn't go into overdrive while it is cold.

I have noticed that my 06 xA shifts harder, and even accelerates a bit unexpectly when it's cold (blue light on). I'm glad that it has that light, although I would perfer an actual temp guage.

Well, my previous car, a 1997 Toyota Tercel, had a temp guage.

Yeah, the other thing about when that blue "cold engine" light is on, it will not shift into overdrive while that light is on. It has to warm up enough first...no big deal.
