Lowering a Scion Xa - Clueless...

Hey Anyone...

I'm a newbie at the whole 'car modification' thing. I just bought a 2006 Xa two days ago, and got the windows tinted yesterday. The next logical step with this rather top-heavy car is to get it lowered. The biggest reason i want to lower it is because of the appearance. The 15" wheels really don't fill up much of the wheel wells, so little in fact that the springs and insides of the wheel wells are in full view all the time. I'd like to at least get the car a few inches lower, for a reasonable price. I understand that a side effect is better performance, which sounds great.

I'm also investigating larger wheels, which would fill up the wells, but would also make the car that much taller. What do you experienced people think? I've seen up to 18" wheels for sale for these cars. Is that rediculous?

Is it realistic to try to both lower the car, and put on larger wheels?

Please let me know what you think, and forgive my ignorance. THANKS!

First off, welcome to the Scion community!

Lowering your xA is not hard to do. There are springs from Sprint, TRD, Gold-Line, Tein and Eibach, to name a few, and it takes about an hour to install them. We have somebody in the community here in Phoenix that's dropped about 75 local cars to date.

As for wheels... I went with 18s and I wish I'd gone with 17s. The ride on my xB is BAD and I'll be making some changes to re-engineer some ride back into it. The thing with 17s is that you can user a taller (sidewall) tire and give yourself that little bit more cushion.

I've heard of 20s for the xB but (personally) I think that's just crazy talk!

Feel free to contact me if you have questions. I can probably help you find someone local to you to help with the lowering.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Nice! Thanks for the help. I'm really pretty dumb when it comes to this stuff. It's good to know that there's peeps out here that know some stuff and are willing to share.

Yeah, do you know of anyone in the Washington DC area? Basically, within 100 miles of DC that might be able to help? Of course, cost is an issue, but I don't want to rip anyone off, either. Any help is appreciated!
