Running out of gas?

I'm wondering if any of you have run out of gas or gotten VERY close in your Scion XA. I'm interested in knowing how the car alerts the driver that you're out. For example, does the little light come on? How much longer has anyone driven after the light comes on? Does it starts start to "ding, ding, ding" when it's SUPER low? And so on.

I want to know what kind of milage to expect after the warning light comes on. WHO'S WITH ME?

If you get low, a picture of a gas pump appears on the LCD display (the one with the odometer). I only let it do that the first time I used it-the guage is different than in my previous car, a 1997 Tercel. In that car, I could let the needle drop below E and still have a gallon or two of gas. In my xA, I got the gas pump with still like half a tick above E.

I have run my 2005 xa for 50 miles after the gas light without it dieing.
