Just curious, for what reason were you going to switch to a synthetic?

It's up to you. I'd say your good to switch if thats what you prefer. Nowdays, however, dino oils are going 5000 miles without any problems and still have room to spare. Synthetics are great for sports applications but if your not going to be racng your car, I'd say you probably don't need Syn and it might just end up costing you more in the long run.

Like I said previously, it's up to you since it's your vehicle and please don't let me make your decision for you. Some people prefer it and some don't but if you plan on doing your oil changes every 5k, I'd personally stick with dino oils due to the high cost of sythetics.

I know walmart sell mobile 1 cheap and it's great but keep an eye on prices. Oil prices go up and you don't want to go backwards once you go to syn.

Your engine will have no issues handling synthetic oil.

I'm changing to synthetic to see if it helps with MPG. A friend of mine who owns a civic swears that the MPG increased after switching. I also like the fact that in high heat synthetics don't break down. Even in cold weather driving the synthetic doesn't turn to sludge and allows for better overall protection. I change my oil every 3k but will change it every 6k with the synthetic. The price per oil change will be about the same.

You should change your oil filter everytime you change your oil. I would be like putting a clean pair of pants on and leaving your nasty underwear on.

I went to Walmart, and the largest container of either the Castrol Syntec or Mobil1 were in 5 "quart" containers, and the price was between $18 & $23. Where did you find the 5 "gallon" containers of synthetic motor oil? Did you have to put in a special order?

I'm guessing they meant quarts.
