Has Anyone Driven Their Scion Xa In The Snow Yet?

How is the xa in the snow? i mean how does it handle when the road is covered with snow that is packed down due to people driving over it and not plowed yet...because i seem to always get stuck at work once it starts snowing and they have a nasty habit of not plowing right away...i got my car July 31st, so i havent been in bad weather with it yet...its fine in rain. Does it have a tendancy to peel out? drift? slid?

I have a 2006 xa with 17" Enkei rims and Nitto NT01 tires and it does just as well as any other front wheel drive car. I didn't have many issues with it last year. The only issue is ground clearance.

If traction is a concern of yours, I'd suggest dedicated snow tires.

I've got a set of snow tires that I install every season. Best investment I've ever made. Plus your all season tires will last longer as well.

slippery when wet

I have an 06 Xa with the factory goodyear tires. These tires are crappy. I have had to rock my car forward using the gas and clutch to get over the stop mechanism in a local car wash, at least two different times - beware of suds! My wife drove this car mostly the first winter, it can be a little scary driving this light weight car down the freeway when the rodes are slick. I have been considering buying some winter tires, but not real excited about spending more money on a new car. Christmas presents or winter tires, hmm...

Don't rate the cars winter traction by the worthless goodyear's that come on it stock......If you do that then the car is no good for 3 out of 4 seasons.

I would have to say, with the stock tires it is worthless about 4 out of 4 seasons. I'm wearing BFGoodrich Traction T/A on there right now, a pretty drastic improvement in all climates/seasons.

Agreed.

The potenzas that come on the tC are terrible in any condition other than bone dry. I get freaked out and cautious in the rain.

I have an XA and a XB both are '06. The B isn't very good, but I haven't had any problems with the A. I have gotten it stuck a couple of times, but the snow was deep. I would rate it a 7.5 out of 10 in the snow.

My fiance drove her xA all winter with no problems. The car is so light that it takes nothing to get it going or stopped on slick roads. Very little wheel spinning or sliding. She loved it. The car is nice and small to make for easy manuvering.

I live on one of those streets thats plows cant/wont come down. I would estimate it took my neigbor's 06 xA 45 mins to move about 20 yards. He works at a hospital and had to go to work. It took 4 grown men to shovel and push him out onto a plowed street.

btw there was 6-8 inched of snow on the ground

We have a XA and love it besides the fact that it sucks in the winter. Seriously, it slides and in any depth of snow the tires just spin and it goes no where. My husband bought me my Scion to replace an older model car and he kept the old car for emergencies and as a spare. The sad thing is all winter I drive the old car and my Scion sits in our garage. My husband doesnt want it driven because it is so bad on snow and ice. I still have the factory tires though and after reading this forum wonder if that is my issue. I was seriously thinking about trading it in due to the fact that it is so bad in the snow. May look into better tires.
