excessive exhaust fumes???

Anyone else experience strong exhaust fumes while your car is warming up? I can't wait more than 15 seconds after starting my car before I have to start moving, or else my car is heavy with exhaust. This is a real bummer now that it is getting cold in MN, having to drop my windows to air out the car in the morning is pretty lame. I have set up a service appt, will have to see what they can do. Also, this car is very sluggish to start, and it has only been getting down into the 30's here, can't wait for January and single digits or less. Hello, roadside assistance...

While your car is sitting, set your heater system to recirc the air. Your sucking in air from outside the car that is full of exhaust fumes. See if that makes a diff.

When I switch to recirc, the windows fog up quickly depending on the humidity. I brought the car in to be checked and they couldn't find anything abnormal. I don't know how I can verify to the service folks that I don't think this is safe. I love CO as much as the next guy, but I need to look out for my childrens health. When the time comes this winter when I will need to let the car run long enough to adequately defrost the windshield for safe driving, I am not sure how I am going to do it. If I sound like a skeptic, it's because I probably am. We have owned 5 other new cars in the last 5 years and I didn't have any issues like this. 01 GTI, 02 Jetta, 02 Protege, 05 Legacy GT and an 06 Accent. We're trying to be frugal with our latest vehicles, and the hyundai has been pretty good so far, the scion has me wondering. Buyer's remorse, getting there.

When you change you recirc, turn on your A/C along with your heater and that will/should prevent your windows from fogging up.

The only other thing I could think you could do would be to purchase the exhaust tip for the xA and xB. It will move your exhaust tip about 2 to 4 inches further out from the back of the vehicle and possibly help alieviate the problem but there is no 100% answer without some trial and error.
