strange dash vibrations?

I bought an 05 Scion xA about two months ago and recently I've been noticing some annoying buzzings from the cabbin. The first only buzzes during low gear acceleration and it sounds as if its comming from the spedo / tach glass but when I touch it to try and dampen the sound it still buzzes. The second buzz happens when I'm cruising at freeway speeds and it sounds as if its comming from somewhere below the radio. I've had my wife sit in the car and try to figure it out while I was driving but were stumped.
Do any of yall have a clue as to what it might be and how I can get rid of it?

Thanks!

Take it to your local dealer......warranty should cover that.

I wouldn't think so. We cover dash rattles all the time. I can't say the tech's like to do it but it's something that needs to be fixed and should be covered. If you local dealer wont do anything about it then call Toyota because thats what a bumper to bumper warranty is designed to fix.

vibration in dashboard area

to synthbent715,

I have the same problem. My Scion Xa is 4 month old. About 3 weeks ago I started to hear this noise.

I have this vibration specially when engine is cold. I hear that noise when car in drive mode and i stop on traffic lights for example. At the begining it was only with AC on. BUt now .......id does not matter. I do not know what to do ?????? I came to dealer .... they sad "you know, we can not do anything about it - we checked with new Scion Xa and it has the same vibration noise." Technically they send me awy and they told me that they can not do anything about it.

Does anyone know what to do and how I can fix the problem?

Thank you

Netfish, sorry to hear about the crappy dealer service. I've been to lazy to take mine to the dealer but I did fix it. I had my wife sit in the drivers seat with the AC on and the car in D with her foot on the brake (that's when my engine vibrates the most) and then I popped the glove box off to expose the guts of the dash. I fished around and found two pieces of black plastic that where vibrating against eachother and making the noise. I stuck a piece of weather stripping between them. Problem solved. Hope this helps.

If you take the glovebox out, the plastic is in the upper left side part of the opening (where your glove box goes) they're two black, bowed pieces of plastic (seem to be covering something) they have little raised lines running through them, from what I can remember, making a diamond pattern. They are just resting up against eachother and nor really connected in any way.

If you have any problems finding it, message me on AIM.

Good deal, if its more of a "knock" than a "buzz" then it might be something else. I actually have been having the knocking sound for the past week or so and I just now found out what it was. When my car is in D, the engine vibrates and the entire intake shakes like crazy and makes a knocking sound in my engine...guess I better get that looked at.

You are right. If it serious "knocking" - you better check it with some Pro mechanic.

But firs vibration was from glovebox plastic, right ?
