Why does my motor mount look like this?

Hey everyone. I've been experiencing some pretty rough idle in my 05 xA. When its in D and I have the A/C on, the vibration from the motor makes my stock intake shake so bad that it makes a knocking noise (when I grab the intake with my hand the noise goes away)

Anyways, I was checking around my engine bay to try and find some reasoning behind the shake, I've read about people with bad motor mounts and such. I bought the car used and I have reason to believe its been in a wreck before, I noticed the left upper motor mount:

I havent seen any other xA engine bay's so I dont know how its supposed to look, but I doubt its supposed to look like that. Could someone please help me out.

Thanks

Is there any way you can send me a picture via e-mail? I can't view what you've posted since I'm at work. I'm blocked from flickr.

It Looks like what you are supposed to have there. I don't have an xA here in the shop but my EPC is showing the mount looking like what you have.

The only thing that strikes me as odd about it, is that little bit of rust where there's no paint. That diagram is a big help, ill have to take a better look when I get home.

You wouldn't happen to have one of those diagrams showing how the intake airbox is supposed to be bolted on do you? Mine just kind of floats there and wiggles like crazy.

Thanks again.

You'll get that. It's normal. The parts are painted before they are machined so the unpainted portion will rust once it's exposed to the elements. You'll get that with any manufacturer.

Exclamation Mounting

You could also install "Ingalls engine torque dampers". Thats my next mod. If you go to youtube and search "ingalls etd scion xa" it shows how well they stop the motor from moving at all.

Those also transfers a LOT of engine noise into the passenger compartment.

You're refering to the "Stiffy" i'm assuming. Talk to tC owners about them if you've never had one or driven with one.
