Well, my CEL came on again today.
It had come on before, right when my trip was at 147 miles (I reset when I fill up)
It cut itself off last time, and now its come on again at the exact same spot, 147 miles into my full tank.
Anyone ever heard of this happening, or is it just a coincidence?
Also is there a way to check for the error code myself? I remember doing it with my 200sx by counting the blinks of the CEL.
Sounds like a bad valve either in the gas cap itself or in the system but you can usually go to your local auto parts store and they will come outside and find out what the code is.
Your 200sx should have had OBDII. I didnt' think you could check those with flashes. Only 93 and back with the OBDI. I suppose you could have had a classic 200 though?

A bad valve?
Aren't those a bit expensive to get fixed?
I've got an appointment tommorow at my toyo dealer, I hope its nothing serious (although I'm at 28k miles, warranty should help?)
Btw, my 200sx was a 96, I flashed it to find out my iac was gunked up, cleaned it and the light was gone, I dunno.
No way other than a scan tool to get codes out of cars these days. Since it comes on after you fill the tank only, id guess its probably an evaporative system code. About 90% of check engine lights on 96 and newer cars are evap codes. Are you overfilling the tank by any chance?
Hes talking about a "vsv" evap sytem valve. Not the valves in the engine.

I've never overfilled the tank. But its been since monday since I filled it up, the light just came on today, 1/3 of the tank is used already.
Thats different, and yes it should be covered under factory warranty. Probably just a coincidence that it came up around the same milage after filling up then.
Should be covered if you've only got 28k on the car. Depends on the in-service date i suppose.
Most people only associate the name Scion with the xB and some people think that they are ugly. Just tell them, "Whatever".

Well I read that sometimes the wire on the air control motor(?) can come loose under the throttle body sometimes, I popped my hood and jiggled the wire, start the car and the CEL is gone. Who knows.
As for the jerk, the first time he said it I kind of chuckled and told him I love scions.
Then he goes "its a shame, they make rims and all these special hook ups just for these ugly cars, you can't find nothing like that for a chevy" and pointed at his rust bucket cavalier. To each his own I guess.
Techs like what theyre familiar with. Im sure he was a GM fan. I dont care for the styling of the scions either but I would have more common sense that to walk up to a customer and say something like that.
They said its a bad idle air control motor, he said its slightly out of spec and was throwing the CEL. He said its all covered under warranty, but they won't have the part until wednesday.
I'm going to pick up the car this evening, he said its fine to drive until then.
