GRIND when AC turns on/off, Fan doesn't come on when ac is off...?

Anybody have an idea of what my problem is?

When I turn my AC on I hear a grind noise from my engine bay, when the fan kicks in when my AC is ON it grinds again, when the fan turns off and my AC is ON, grinds again, when I turn my AC OFF, it grinds... however...

When my AC is NOT ON, I hear NO grinding noises and I stood there for 45 minutes with my engine running idle and the fan never came on, is that normal?

It seems the grind sound is attatched to the AC, its just strange that it makes the grinding noise as the fan cuts on and off while my AC is running.

I've actually got an apt for the dealership tommorow, another dealer said they fixed the noise by cleaning the ac blower, but that never stopped the grinding noise.

I just want to be sure they finally fix it, going into it with the most knowledge about it myself would help I guess.

Thanks everyone.

need a new a/c compressor..

you really need new clutch on the compressor but if it is still under warranty most likely they replace the compressor..

It might be the fan, compressor or a bad valve in the system. My Spec-V does the same thing. Has since day one.

Well I just called the dealer, they said the water pump is "pouring" and they have to keep my car till tuesday.

They said they're gonna give me a loaner if I get up there before 6pm.

If my water pump was pouring wouldn't I be losing coolant? I've never noticed one coolant leak and my coolant level is always fine, strange...

they might say it was pouring but most like it was leaking very little but when it leaks out .. the toyota coolant gets hard and chunky.. sticks to the engine block.. pink in color.. i seen this before on the older xB . if u look on the pass side engine.. you might be able to see alot of dried up pink coolant..

I have noticed little white-pinkish dots all over my engine bay, I wondered if they were coolant but whenever I check the level its always fine, I guess it is leaking then, good thing they cought it, seeing as the dealership I bought it from failed to catch it 3 times in a row, and this new dealership found it right away.
