Fram XG4967 Extended Guard Oil Filter

Does anybody have a review for the Fram XG4967 Extended Guard Oil Filter? I have heard mixed reviews and i'd like to know if anybody has had any problem with the filter's gasket getting wedged out of place. Thanks

just out of curiosity....whats wrong with an OEM filter? Why would you use Fram? Any filter where the gasket isn't securred to housing is JUNK!

Fram anything tends to be cheap. Old hot rodders, the kind who have been in the game so long they can torque a nut to spec by hand, tend to judge an oil filter by its weight ... you'll find that Mobil1 is amoung the heaviest and Fram (being all paper inside) is the lightest.

Not true. Most filters have a seat and the seal is separate. You're supposed to put a very thin coat of fresh motor oil on both sides of the seal before you seat it and install the filter.

I know about oiling the o-ring/gasket.

The problem you'll get with a filter thats got a separating gasket is that you have the possibility of the gakset not coming off when you remove the filter. This leads to GREAT possibilities of double gasketing the next filter and losing all your oil because of the bad seal. I've seen it happen plenty of times.

Frams are on the low end of the pole as far as filters go. They'll work but I'd never use one of them on my car.

Fram Extended Guard use better filter element than the OEM Toyota Filter. Other better filters are Mobil1 and Royal Purple. Toyota filter is half the price of any of the filters that I just listed. They all use a synthetic filtering element, not paper.

More information below:
