Question why are there so many salvaged scions??

alrite, here's my story:
i had a 96 camry, but it got totalled. my parents "borrowed" my money and bought an 04 sienna, and i've been driving it for about 2 years. i'm 20 y/o so it's def NOT my style. they have paid me back plus a lil more and now i have about 10-13k to spend on a car. i want a compact sedan or coupe. i was leaning towards bmw 3 series, acura tsx or audi a4, but with my budget and the crappy mpg that those cars get i'm leaning towards a TC.

Now the question:
after searching on autotrader.com for the tc, almost all the tcs on there are salvaged. I know the expression "you get what you pay for" and obviously there won't be as many salvaged tcs if my budget was a lil higher. But i'm curious as to why there are so many? would someone hitting you only on the drivers side door or something really salvage your car(as many claimed)? what are your thoughts on salvaged tcs? i really like the idea of cheaper insurance..lol

thanx for any input and sorry, cuz i know this is long as hell...

a lot of new drivers are getting ahold of Scions and when you get a new driver on the road with little to no experience then sometimes you get a boom. Scion was meant for younger drivers and younger drivers are just more likely to get in accidents.

Also...look at the initial cost of a scion. it's far less then even it's toyota counter parts. The lower the vehicle cost and value, the less damage it takes to "total" it by an insurance co.
Most of the time, it only takes about 60% of the vehicles cost in damage to total it so a 16k dollar car plus depreciation gives you less then 10k in damage to work with, parts and labor combined.

there were also a lot lost in last year's hurricanes and floods ... many are returning at ghetto lots, in auto trader and on ebay as salvage vehicles.

My suggestion is to finance the other 9k-10k and get a new Scion. That way you avoid all and any salvaged cars or spend $24.99 and get carfax, but thats not always up to date.

Floods, young drivers and maybe the crappy tires. Not awful when dry but when its wet I can hydroplane at will, ha ha I can hydroplane when I don't will. My wife says this is the only car that has ever really scared her to drive when it's wet. Did I mention that I really really hate front wheel drive? If I didn't....I really really hate front wheel drive.

I'm on the same page as you but the fact that its fwd is neither here nor there ... for some fwd is better.

The tires, they suck ass in the rain. I will never buy another set of Bridgestone Potenzas. Ever.

I would never buy a salvage vehicle. If you think the value of the car is cheap now, try unloading it in a few years.
