Well, I want to get a scion and I am looking at either the xB or the tC...
I ama single man with a small child ( 7 years old).. My 70 year old Dad has a 05 tC and he loves it.. has 34K miles on it and has no problems. I am 6 ft tall and 260 lbs and I drive his tC and it feels just fine. I am concerned about the novelty wearing off and me not being happy with it.. I like the hatch back idea a lot and the automatic shifts great. ( i have a stick shift truck so I would most likely get an automatic for the Scion.
BUt something keeps drawing me back to the xB... The shape, the storage.. but would I like looking at it day in and day out for however many years I own it? I wonder..
I am also concerned about the xB's ability to go long distance driving.. Would it be comfortable? Would the small engine wear me out afte r3-4 hours of driving. What is its durabilty in that situation over the long haul?
So what do you all think?
xB or tC?
ps... I am not interested in the new xB.. I think they are going to blow the very market they created. It has lost its charm completely So no suggesting I wait for the new xB and the new xD is ugly.
I'm a fan of the xB but it's all a matter of what you like the most.

I prefer the xB, and I'm normally the guy who wants the car as small as it can be.
And that's why I dislike the tC's styling. The tC's dash is far too long and huge (it just keeps going and going, oh and then theres the windshield, like 10 feet infront of you. It kind of puts the A-pillars in an akward part of my vision when I'm driving and it drives me nuts. Only other car that I know is like that is the 2nd gen Prius.
The forward sitting position of the xB feels more comanding on the road. It feels like I'm in "ready" mode, Where the tC I can't help but think about how huge the dash is everytime I drive one. LoL.
They're very different cars. My vote would be tC if you're looking at 07's, if you're looking at the 08's go xB ...its got the 2AZ-FE from the tC and Camry.

The other option you have for Scion in the fall of 2007 (2008 model) is the Xd. The Xd that is replacing the Xa, will have the 1.8 litre engine of the Corolla. The base 1.8 runs pretty strong, runs on regular fuel, and is sure to return great fuel mileage. Yeah, I would wait for this autumn to see what NEW Scion models test well. Scion is a great choice.
Buy the tC. The xB takes forever to get to freeway speeds. I drove one before and took about 20 seconds to go from stand still to 80mph. If you want to pass another car, it's gutless. You downshift and wait for paint to dry to pass.
I do like the amount of space it hold inside, but the exterior is horrid. It feels like you're driving a refrigerator on wheels.
Everyone has their favorite. I personally prefer the xB over the tC for the fact that he has a younger child. Coupes are not fun for long term kid hauling. Buy a 4 door now and a coupe when your kidless.

I think 7 year olds can buckle themselves in, unless the kid's name is Mongo.
I have a 4 year old nephew who can jump in his booster seat and strap himself in.

I'm not saying that they can't buckle themselves in, I'm saying it can be a PITA to always have to move your seat forward to let your kid in and out when they're old enough to do it themselves when a rear door.
A tC isn't really designed for leg room in the rear especially when that child starts to grow more. It's not that you have to buckle your child in, it's that you have to let them in and then give up your own leg room to compensate for your child's lack of it.

the 08 will have to2.4l vvti 2az-fe from the tC. Not sure if it'll have the tranny from the tC or camry tho.

meh... I rode most of the way from canada to st.l in the back of my own tC with either swegyptian or theamazingnate in the front. I'm 5' 11" and I wasn't horribly uncomfortable. Short hauls and the kid will be fine ... two kids in the rear might be a pain tho. Don't forget the rear seats do recline.
...my mom use to haul my sis and I to and from school in a 90 Celica GT. Now that back seat has NO leg room

ditto.
This would be the defining thing for me. Would love the room of the xB, but the engine's power is shitty.

Meh... long hauls at +80 mph you have to get use to the higher rpm but like I said, I've driven to Toronto, Canada from St.L, Missouri and back at +85-90mph in mine with no complaints.
My mom's Celica and my Celica were the same way too. The car does what it is designed to do.
I would think they would use the tranny from the Camry for the 2azfe xB.

i have a tC and i like it overall, but the ride is faily bumpy for long ride, but it does have decent power, not as much as my TL though. I recently went on trip in an xB and it had to be pushed to ride at 80mph constantly...
