just help~did 60000 miles service~but get more things need to be done...

Hi,
I did my 60000 miles maintenance (05 scion tc) this weekend finally~
but the adviser gave me more things that I need to do.
1. Front Breaks
2. break fluid
3. P/S Steering fluid exchange (I think I don't have this service before)

if I change all of them, it gonna costs around $ 500

1. for these services, is any possible that I can do it by myself? if yes, how can i do it? I want to save some money........already paid $400 for the maintenance.

2. for the break fluid, P/S Steering fluid, and break pads, is any brand can recommend?
3. Do i need to have some special tools?

thanks for your help~~

most of those advisors at the dealer ships b/s you like 95% of the time, your p/s fluid you rarley change, especialy on an 05 why would it need it? as for your brake fluid theres no real reason to change it either, unless for some odd reason it got really dorty in 3 years which i doubt it did. For the brake pads just go to autozone and get some duralast pads, to be exact get the duralast gold cmax pads, they are a full ceramic pad so they will be the best for you and they are innexpensive, also they have a lifetime warranty so when u need new ones take those back to autozone and they ill give you another set free. and when changeing the pads the only special tool you would need is possibly a tool to reset the pistons in the calipers, but usually a C clamp works unless it has a wierd setup, which then autozone again has the tool and its prety cheap

I agree with Menace. Most of the stealers are bullsh#@ers. I never touched the brake or power steering fluid in my car.

1. Front Breaks - possible, I would check the thickness, I would not take their word
2. brake fluid flush - wallet lining service for the dealer
3. P/S Steering fluid exchange (I think I don't have this service before) - another wallet lining service for the dealer.

I would consult your owner's manual and adhere to the maintenance schedule outlined in there. Today's cars do not need much maintenance as they did 10-20 years ago, so the dealer has to come up with new B/S services to dust bust your wallet. Next they will come up with a windshield washer fluid exchange service or rotate the air in your tires.

I have had brake jobs pitched to me full well knowing that the wheels were never pulled, I went home pulled the wheels myself and the pads still had 40% of their lining left. I respect Jessie James at least he robbed people the old fashioned way - with a gun.
