How to remove stock radio from tC?

I want to put my old box and amp in my tc . . . i am going to get the wire kit from ebay. but i need to know exactly how to get to the back of the radio . . . and also the best way to run the wires. Can anyone whos done this please explain in as much detial as possible how to remove the radio? Thanks

ok, what you want to do is start with the piece connected to the shifter, pull it off... then pull the top piece off where the air conditioner is.... disconnect the air conditioner... take a 10 millimeter and remove the four screws surrounding the head unit... that is it... I ran my on the drivers side... FOR MORE INFO CHECK OUT THE THREAD "installing aftermarket subs" .

i dont understand what you mean by "the piece connected to the shifter" . . .do you mean the silver panels running along side the shifter. or the black area directly around the shifter. I cant really follow what your saying but i appreciate the help.

the black panel around the shifter can't be removed.... yeah, the silver part comes off with the black part, just start pulling, you won't break anything.

Wow I just did this 2 hours ago and boy is it fun!!!
1st off they dont have a true in dash kit yet so I had to use one for import cars... works but I had to remove the slide down scion cover off to make everything fit. ok now to the removal.

1) you need to take off your shifter knob.
2) remove the shifter cover being carful not to pull to hard and fast and gank the lighter wires in back.. they remove easy though.
3) then you have to grit down and reach under the clock where the cubby hole is to store stuf with your palm up and just push up and pull out. It feels as if it wont come out but it will. Becareful again not to yank the control wires out.
4) then youll see 4 bolts holding the radio on place in the bracket it sits in. Remove these and you can get to the radio itself. Unplug the wires in back of the radio and you got it!

Note: If you goto install a custom deck, you have to remove the slide scion cover or it wont fit all back together. Unless someone found out how, I couldnt do it and I tried all different ways for about 45 min.

Hope this helps.. Oh all standard toyota harnesses work for the new head unit.

Black Cherry tC, last week I installed my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X679 into the dash and did not have any real problems. The only thing I noticed was that with the HU installed the factory radio cover could not close unless I detached the faceplate, maybe thats what you were talking about. Well I have thought of a couple of ideas to fix this because I tliked driving down the road with the cover down.

1) to either remove the cover like you did

2) trim the back of the cover to give it more clearance looks as though all i need is an extra 1/8"

3) it looks as though the cover piece is actually two different piece, as though there is a backing on it. If this is true I will try to take the backing off.

Well right now I'm in orlando and I live in Vero but Hurricane Jeanne is tearing up my home town. Well maybe when I get back to my house and get things back to normal I will be able to post some pictures. And by the way since I had a 2 DIN whole in the dash and put a single DIN in, I plan to put a single DIN eq from kenwood, the KGC-9044. Again pictures as soon as possible.

Hey GL with that 5th Hurricane brother! I know thats gotta suck for you folks... as for my head unit I just went ahead and removed the sliding door. I have it completely open. I also have no DIN's. I just have the head unit in. I will put in others later and modify stuff. There was a small gap left around the entire unit from where nothing completely sits up flush. Im using a professional grade carbon fiber adhesive to cover everything and give it a sharp look. As for the door that slides down I tossed it in the junker . Didnt really like it anyways...

I also finished with my chrome grill and all neat things I got for it... Ill have to get the pics up now of my car.

Well I just ordered my Kenwood EQ model number KGC-9044 today for my tC. Once I get it I will have to run new wires from the trunk to the dash for my speakers since I will be putting in my alpine 150 watt amp for my doors and my 800 watt amp for my mtx thunder8000 12" sub that came out of my 96' ford explorer. I plan on putting the EQ on top of the HU because with the HU up top, it feels weird when you try to load a CD into it since it sits up so high. I will probably end up putting my SIRIUS antenna and processor unit in there two. The only thing I am worried about is running the speaker wires from the back to the front, since in the explorer all I had to do was disconnect the speaker wires that were going into the factory amp in the rear cargo panel and run those to my alpine. But if I am thinking correctly there should not be any factory amp because the factory HU had its own built in amp. But if my mtx sub is not enough for me I will be updating it to two volfenhag 12's and a punch amp like 800 watts or more, my buddy has a setup similar to that in his monte and it hits damn hard. Well just figured I would give an update on my situation my house might be messed up from the hurricanes but that will not stop me from making my baby look and sound nice like my explorer use to.
