I currently have a T100 which will someday die! I have read the specs on the 2005 Tacoma and the head room is comparable to the T100 and the leg room only 1" less.
Anyone here 6'5" or taller who has tried out, bought, or otherwise driven the newly designed Tacoma? How comfortably do you fit?
btw: I will only get a standard so I need to know how you find shifting with long legs. Does the steering wheel get in the way?
Can't help ya, since they're both pretty close in leg and head room, the nest step is shoulder room. Leg and head room has never been a problem for me so shoulder room was my deciding factor. Oh, I'm only 5'2", I got lots-o-room.
I'm 6'5" and just bought an '05 Tacoma but it's a double cab. Very comfortable, plenty of head room, could always use more leg room but as it is it very comfortable. Seat are good and supportive too.
For my own tastes the Taco was a bit to tight for me even in doublecab form. Im a tall guy too and broad shouldered. I stepped up to the Tundra doublecab and I love it. The gas mileage I'm getting is almost the same that people with Taco doublecabs are getting!!! In the Maine winter Im getting 16-17mpg back road miles to the gallon. Highway is real good. Im still nervous about 1st year run vehicles and the quirks they have so the Taco had that strike too. I have also NOT had the paint problems, skeaks/rattles/noises that the Taco owners have. They have been building the Tundra's for a bit and they don't have many bugs. Keep us posted! I know the Tundra comes with a 6-speed manual on the V6 version but I have not driven/seen one
Hey, I am 6'6" and just got an '05 Tacoma Access Cab. I spent quite a while searching for a truck that I would fit into because I have long legs, and none of the import mid-size trucks worked from '04 and earlier (including pickups and SUVs). When the '05 Tacoma came out, they boasted a few extra inches of play in the driver seat and when I test drove it, I definitely found that to be true. Also, the steering wheel not only has a lift and drop mechanism, but also can telescope in and out which should help keep it out of your way when shifting. I find that I have as much leg room, if not more, than I had in my American old-lady-mobile and the head clearance is great as well. If you opt for the Access cab, don't plan on anyone sitting behind you comfortably with the seat all the way back, but it should work for you assuming you don't have disproportionately long legs. Check out the dimensions on Toyota's website and compare them with your T100. I'm sure it will stack up. Hope this helps.
If you are going to get a manual trans., then you will probably have to go with the Tacoma. The only way you can get a manual Tundra is if you get the 6cyl. base model that is only available in 2wd (and this will come with very few, if any, options and the 3.4L v6, not the 4.0L v6 )- the Tundra 4.7cyl (8 cyl.) only comes in automatic. You can get a manual Tacoma with nearly every option package that Toyota offers for the Tacoma. It sucks that Toyota doesn't offer more manual trucks in the U.S.- but then again, they don't offer any diesels either and Toyota diesels are very popular in other countries.

I haven't been to the Toyota website this year, but the 2004 Tacoma 4-door version in 2WD was not available with a manual transmission. Maybe Toyota saw the light for the '05 model year?

-May just be a mistake but it does not show the 4.0L yet on this part of Toyota's website(I know they are suppose to be offering it, but all the ones at my local dealerships still have 3.4L in them- they must be 2004 holdovers).

The 05' Tundra's feature both a stronger V6 and V8. The 4.0 V6 is standard across the board for 4x2 models and the 4.7 V8 gains variable intake, and better breathing and an extra gear. Both engines have new tranny features. The V6 has the 6-speed manual and the V8 has a 5-speed automatic. It appears this year that only the V8 is offered in the 4x4 models.

Thanks for any replies.
I am 6'3" and I fit into a 05 Tacoma extended cab with no problem and even the regular cab Tundra. But if you're going to buy new an all new, bigger Tundra is due for 2006.Could be worth the wait.I'm sure my 94 excab SR5 4wd with 75k will hold out that long LOL!
Just a bit of advice, you may want to wait a year after the new Tundra comes out, just look at all our 05' Tacoma owning brothers - they have paint, cab mounting bolt issues, rattles, suspension knock and lurching. May want to give them at least one production year to fix all that crap!!!!1st year models

Sometimes getting a new production run first year model can be a problem. But I got my 2003 Matrix XR 5 speed in late February 2002 and the only problem I've had with it was a plastic tab breaking off in very cold weather which switches the day/night mirror -the mirror was replaced under warranty.Must have got a good one! Most problems I've been reading about are minor ,which the dealer will fix under warranty,as is the case with most Toyotas. Buy American though and it won't matter what production year it is-LEMONS ABOUND!
