V6 supercharged Tundra?

Hey there folks! I'm new to this forum but I've done some searching and haven't found the info I'm looking for, so here goes my first post...

Does anyone have experience with V6 supercharged manual tranny Tundra's?

I'm a manual tranny kind of guy but unfortunately Toyota's great wisdom has never mated one to the V8 Tundra, only the V6 (which has been impossible to find around here anyway!). I've had a wish for a long time to find 2WD Access cab V6 manual Tundra, but not if it's going to be slow as a turtle.. hence my question. What would a S/C V6 Tundra be like?

On a side note, I did drive a new base model yesterday w/ the 4.0L 245 HP engine and 6-spd manual and it felt as though it was at least a quick as my '00 Taco 3.4L V6, but I'm sure it would get schooled by every other full size out there w/ a V8. I know the 4.0L supercharger isn't out yet, but surely it's coming.

Thoughts anyone?

I think that a S/C V6 Tundra would do just fine aganst any full-size V8 truck.
The stock 4.0L V6 puts out 245 hp and I estimate that an S/C would push it up to at least 300 hp.
Toyota isnt the only one to not offer a manual tranny with their biggest engines.
The only way you have ever been able to get a F-150 with the 5.4L V8 and a manual tranny is to order an SVT Lightning (Im also pretty sure that Ford has only offered a 6-speed manual on the '05 models). On a standard F-150, you have to take the smaller, 4.6L V8 (220-hp, I think). Ford has always forced you to take a manual tranny with the 5.4L on the standard F-150.
Im not sure why this is the case. Perhaps the manual tranny is too long to fit when equipped with the 5.4L. Perhaps the 5-speed manual just isnt strong enough to handle the power the 5.4L puts out. I know that tranny is the same Mazda tranny that has been used in the Ranger for many years. A lot of people have problems with the tranny needing a rebuild after about 150,000 miles. If it cant handle 120-160 hp in a Ranger, it might not hold up at all in a 250-300 hp F-150.

Thanks for the input Cap'n. I did an AutoTrader search for a manual tranny '00-'05 Tundra and only one was within 400 miles of me! Odd thing is, most of them were consistently either 500 miles away or 1700 miles away (California maybe?). I wonder why their availability seems so region specifiic?

Hopefully when the new Tundra comes out in '07 (or whenever it is) there will be a few more options on powertrain combos.

True, consider what Toyota has done with the Tacoma, I will be VERY interested to see how the new Tundra turns out!
My guess is that they will go with a bigger displacement V8, mostly likely a 5.0L or bigger.
Ive also heard that it will be available as a gas/electric hybrid. Supposedly they will be able to offer 300 hp and 20 mpg!
Ive also heard that Toyota may be offering a diesel and that they will be making a Tundra Heavy-Duty to compete with the Ford Super Duty and the GM HDs.
One things for sure, the Nissan Titan has lit a fire under Toyota's butt and Im sure they wont be satisfied with another Japanese automaker one-upping them!

It's unlikely toyota will offer a S/C for the 4.0L V6. Same reason toyota didn't offer it on the 05 V8's. Take a look at both the motor's spec. That's a compression I wouldn't be putting FI on. It wasn't just vvti that added 42hp.

Captain_Toyota, either I reading it wrong or you meant to say something else. Pardon for the correction.
Previous gen lightnings only has a 4spd auto. Current 04 and newer f150's still has a 4spd auto. Their current gen lightning's production has been pushed back till who knows when, so there isn't a 04 and newer lightning, yet.

The said rumors of the next tundra V8 is to be 5.4L-5.5L. They're keeping a tight lip on it. They will keep the 4.0L as the base motor and the 4.7L as the base V8 and add the larger V8. Toyota will not say what they have for the HD trucks.

I was thinking the new body style, you are correct they carried over the previous body into 04 for the lightning too, here I thought only the heritage had the prevoius gen body as an 04. Are you sure about the 6spd manual? As far as the people I know who has lightning(they keep tabs on it) they all say it still gots the 4spd auto.
