TUNDRA 05 4.7 Db cab owners.Tell me about your truck.
Guys Im torn between the Tacoma Db cab and the Tundra Db cab. I went and looked at both today. The Tundra edged the Tacoma in my persoanl pick. I talked to the saleman and we came to the conclusion I can get a Tundra for what I can get a Tacoma for. This is going to be a family vehicle really/ and my personal ride. Any problems surfaced on these new trucks? I seen the few problems the Tacomas have had. Nothing serious..... I just want a Db cab SR5 plain , set up with maybe a upgrade on rims.I just want aluminum rims. No rust... down the line. Maybe a bedliner and running boards for my kids to get up in there. I see where it's rated at 18 mpg. Now tell me what I really should expect on the highway. TIA for any imput. I see where this is a heavy Tacoma board. But from what I could tell the Tundra has alittle more going for it if a bigger truck isn't a problem . Oiler.
Well I know I'm in the minority as a Tundra owner on this forum but I have the dblcab and the V8 and 5spd are hard to beat. The interior is crazy for space and versatility (if you don't get the bench). There's ton of storage in the center and under seat. I like the fact that the entire window goes down. I also like the fact that the truck is voted JD Powers best quality pickup over and over. So I guess is your like me hauling a family, some stuff from Homedepot and an occasional boat and camper you'd do fine with a Tundra. I still laugh that I get similar mileage out of this truck as Taco owners. I avg almost 18 with a mix of rural and some highway. On a trip I almost got 20mpg...I am happy thusfar with my descision.

Thanks for the feed back. I take it you have the + HP 05 4.7 motor. ... Yea Im would use the truck just like you. Take the family to the moutians and homdepot pickups.. LOL... Im really thinking the Tundra is going to be the better buy if I can get the $2000 back deal . Everything been good with yours? No complaints ???????? Thanks for the feed back, Oiler.
Yes, I have the 05, nothing mechanically, no rattles, etc. I think they have some real good deals on the Tundra's, I got an excellent lease rate on mine in DEC. It's a blast to take rides both on the road and on the off-road areas.

I've got a '05 DC SR5 Tundra and love it. I need the interior space for my height and I wanted room for the family. So far the truck is great. The tranny shifts very smoothly. I've had it in 4 wheel drive a few times and it does well for a long stock pick-up. Mine came with the limited slip rear diff. I also got the TRD package based on reports that it made the truck handle better on the highway in addition to off-road.
I've only got 2k miles on it but so far so good. I think there are pretty good deals out there too. I got mine for $3800 below sticker.
So Oiler, go get that dblcab yet? We can keep giving you glowing reviews, just go to msnautos.com and check out the user reviews, they are all very high.

i have the 05 tacoma and i love it. personally i think the front end styling of the tundra is outdated. however the fact that they cost almost the same means that a tundra is more bang for the buck.
if i were to get a tundra i would wait for the redesigned one coming out soon.
I have owned the Sequoia and loved it. Now I own a '05 Tacoma, V6 D-CAB LB and also love it. I traded in my 1998 T-100 which was bigger and I must say better built. If the Tundra (Sequoia with bed) is the same price as the Tacoma it just means that Toyota has to get a ROI quickly and the Tundra is outdated...I know the horsepower is more...but the new Tundra will have many more options to choose from and then will be more expensive. Toyota has already recouped their investment in the Indiana plant and R&D for the Tundra design.
I have noticed things taken from the Camry (interior lights) and Tundra to make the new Tacoma, as well as, new items (110 volt outlet), 5 speed auto. It is a good truck with a new look that the rest will follow within Toyota.
Thanks for the imput guys, really. No better person to ask than a real owner. The Tundra is a better pick for me over the Tacoma, for the fact I have 2 kids. It will be a family vehicle. Im not worried about the Tundra being outdated so to speak. I sat in one the other day and it seemed all new to me and as updated as any other new truck out there. And one thing I do like is it isn't a NEW model that has to go through it's teething pains like the Tacoma is right now. I would think the bugs would be worked out with the Tundra ( hopely ) by now. While the body style might be a couple of years old, the motor ( engine for you northern folks ) is upgraded this year to 280 something HP's with no lost in MPG acorrding to there sales hype .... Im moveing next week to Winston Salem NC. Im waiting till I get there and start doing my really going to buy the darn truck looking. I have already got everything in place. I have sold my 97 chevy Siveraldo .No trade in to deal with..... I have also saved up $30,000 to go buy the truck out right.Im hopeing I can get into one for $25,000-$26,500 .With my new house up there I can't handle a payment extra. It's better for me to just pay cash so to speak. Now I have sold alot of toy's to get that money up + income tAX FOR 2 YEARS..... But it's there in a bank acount just waiting. I didn't want to buy a vehicle out of state and have to transport it to another.....I have also a 1994 Toyota 4 banger that Im keeping to comute in and put the rd miles on. 28 mpg is nice with the gas prices being what they are.... I don't want a 4x4.. Just a DC with alloy rims and a bed lined and running boards. Thanks for all yall's input... Oiler
You'll definitly find a dblcab 2-wheel drive for your stated price range. Good luck on the move. I agree with you on the teething pain on new models - it seems everyone from Nissan to Toyota is botching the quality on 1st year models. Also of note to those of you who say wait for the new Tundra - just remember it will be built in a NEW plant. Ask Nissan owners (and I'm one of them) about the qaulity that comes out of a spanking new plant - it sucks.........

cant go wrong with the tundra for the price. you can probably start sending emails out to local dealers with an offer. check the different sites you can buy cars online. sometimes you get a much better price that way. hell check eBay as well
I absolutely love my 04 dblcab 4x4 tundra. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Cant go wrong with the name TOYOTA anyway, look around for the best buy and you will be happy.
Actually, I should have specified..the T100 was wider...
Here is what I was speaking of ...interior room is about a half a foot wider.
T100
InteriorFront Head Room: 39.6 in. Front Hip Room: 59.4 in. Front Shoulder Room: 62.4 in. Rear Head Room: 37.8 in. Rear Shoulder Room: 60.2 in. Rear Hip Room: 60.4 in. Front Leg Room: 42.9 in. Rear Leg Room: 29.6 in.
Tacoma InteriorFront Head Room: 40.1 in. Front Hip Room: 53.6 in. Front Shoulder Room: 57.7 in. Rear Head Room: 38.5 in. Rear Shoulder Room: 59.3 in. Rear Hip Room: 55.2 in. Front Leg Room: 41.7 in. Rear Leg Room: 32.6 in.
I had a 97 Sonoma and had to upgrade to a 4-door because we were having our first child and I wanted a vehicle I could drive the baby in.
The Tundra has now become our family vehicle. The Ford Explorer, which was SUPPOSED to be the primary family vehicle, is practically collecting dust in the driveway. My wife says there is so much more room in the back seat even with the huge baby seat in the middle than there is in the Explorer, which is SUPPOSED to be the "passenger vehicle."
No arguments here. I'd rather be driving my Tundra any day!
Bought my black DCab SR5 in April '05, currently at 17,750 miles and still loving it more every time I get in it!
