Question tundra V8 miles per gallon

just got a tundra V8 access cab 4wd with off-road package with 140 miles on the odometer
and the gas dial shows less than half full, if a full tank is 26 gal, this amounts to around
ten miles per gallon gas mileage and all i do is short drives on tar. can anybody enlighten
me or give tips on how to improve gas mileage

sorry to hear about that, lighten up on the gas pedal, I knew an old man who told me how to save on gas, drive slow. So you can't be in a hurry, you have to leave early to be on time.

I might make a bet that I could get 20 MPG, but I don't go that far either so if you don't go that far .... does it really matter.

People ask me what is the gas mileage and I say who cares, I love the feeling that truck gives me when I punch it.

If gas mileage is a real problem I could get you a Prius, hehe ... Da Petestr!

internet guy is onto something. When I picked up my 05' Tundra Dblcab I got about 14 mpg for the first 1K or so. After I relaxed a bit on my new found v8 power it began to improve. Also, the engine has a break in period. During this period many people get less mpg than what they tend to achieve later (like after the first oil change). I have a little over 4K and last week I was happy with about 19 mpg combined city/highway with my Tundra.

Have you tried the Turbonator for better fuel economy and horsepower? It sounds like an interesting device. I'd like to hear if anyone has tried it on a Tundra.
The is a link to its web-site on the bottom of the Toyota Nation web page, See below link called "Better Fuel Economy".

Give your truck some time to break-in. After about 5000 miles you will be getting at least 15 mpg.
Most Tundras get 16-18 mpg.

LOL! You can't determine MPG by looking at your gas gauge because they aren't precision instruments. The only way to determine MPG is to use the following formula: Miles travelled / gallons filled.

210 miles / 18.5 gal = 11.351 MPG

Chevyguy -- Yeah, what the heck? The first tank is no indication, and judging by estimating how much fuel you have used based on the gas gauge? That's about as accurate as your average weather forecast Wait until you fill the tank once, then run it down most of the way and then check it. I'm sure it will be more than 10MPG!
