Question 04 Tundra 4x4 TC lockup for off road question...

Hey,

This is kind of convoluted and hard to describe so I hope I can make it clear...

I'm wondering if there's any way to make it possible to use the transmission to control descents without using low range. Right now, the trans is useless on hills and I have to hold the brakes all the way down. What I want is to be able to pull it into 1st gear, descend slowly, then back in drive to continue.

Is there a way to rig a maunal lockup on the converter to allow the engine to slow the truck?

Thanks!

-Evan

Maybe a Tundra owner will chime in. It sounds to me like there is a problem with your transmission. The A340 in my T100 works great for engine braking in high and low range. The only times I need to shift down in range is when I am carrying extra weight or descending an extra steep grade. The engine braking is the reason that at 129,000 miles the truck still has the original brakes.

It's just about like it's coasting, even when it's in L(1). This is a new truck with 9000 miles, everything seems to working OK with the tranny...

I would complain to the dealer. Maybe take a drive in another and see if it acts the same way. It sounds like yours has a problem and the warranty should take care of it.
