'92 4Runner CV Boot

I have a newbie question about the CV Boots on my mom's '92 4WD 4Runner and was hoping someone could help.

Both boots are cracked and have leaked quite a bit of grease, it
looks pretty fresh, and i do not believe the joints are damaged. the truck is not driven hard and is never driven far, it has right at 50k miles on it.

How hard of a job is it to replace the boots myself?
I know i will have to take off the wheel to start with...what else has to be taken off to get to it?
Does anyone know where i can find detailed diagrams/pics of the assembly online?

Thanks in advance for all the help

Later,
Keri

sounds like torture

First drive the car around corners in 4wd and accelerate. any noise like shuddering, and you will have to replace the shafts. As far as doing the boots yourself, it's good to have a compressor, tons of rags, a big brass hammer, strong bench vise, good circlip pliers and some experience. You might have to remove the a-frames or lower ball joint, which involves spring issues and some danger. Any shop manual for Toyota 4runner should have good pictures, as this repair is common on FWD and 4wd cars.
