any common problems with 4 runners?

i currently have a honda accord, and am looking into picking up a 4 runner, got the money and ready to buy, just worried about if it'll last.

been lookin at a 94 and they sound/look great, but I was wondering if anyone knows about common problems with this kind of toyota. for example, if it's gonna die the second it rolls over to 125000.

please, any help will be greatly appreciated

V6's had a head gasket issue, also make sure it hasn't been run hot.
Other than that they are nearly indestructable. Buy a digital cam, you'll be going places you never thought of going, and the scenery will be worth posting.

hi, what did you mean when you said "make sure it wasn't run hot"?
try to find out if the engine has been overheated(run hot) because this weakens the headbolts and makes damaging easier. Even if repairs have been done, still avoid anything that has been overheated.
A good clue an engine has been overheated is a cleaner head than block, aftermarket head /exhaust / intake gaskets hanging out(factory ones are hidden pretty good) Another thing to peek at is the oil pan bolts, does it look like a wrench has been on them? if so it may have spun a bearing and have a patched repair job. all these are standard things to look for on any vehicle you wish to buy

I posted this here because this may be information that could help another reader also

Like tercel said, there's a headgasket recall on the V6s. If you find one you like, get the VIN and call the dealer to see if it has been worked on and if it's eligable for the recall. If it hasn't and it's eligable then you're in luck because you could get new heads, or even a new engine.

Common things that start to die in high mileage 2nd gens are the waterpump and powersteering pump. Timing belt should be replaced every 60k. Since you're coming from a car, if you get an automatic be prepared for one of the slowest trucks on earth. BUT, they're reliable and if well taken care of, will last well into 200k. I'm at 180k now. I hear the 5 speeds have much more power.

Check out my website for the places you can go in a mostly stock 4runner.

I've had 4 - 4-runners an 85,86 91 & 92. The first 3 were great trucks 2-300,000 mi but the 92 I bought at 140,000 mi, clean truck thought i would'nt have any trouble but this one has blown 2 head gaskets within 25,000 mi unfortunate, so take the information from these truckers and make an inteligent choice, make sure you have some of these items checked out and you should have a good truck.
