Supercharger for my 4runner

I own a '02 4runner Sport Ed.I,m looking to add a supercharger to help tow my boat. It can take it but I would prefer the power. What will I need to handle it like a trans cooler, temp gauge..? Will this be bad for my engine in the long run? I need some info to make sure it is worth it.

toyota has tested engines with these superchargers extensively with very few problems

for towing its always good to have a tranny oil cooler

and no you wouldn't need anything else for the basic supercharger,

if you were looking into getting pulleys that make it spin faster and give more boost, then you might need engine and fuel work

You will definitely need to install a tranny cooler. I have a supercharger in my Runner and am pleased with the performance gains.

Here's what I needed to do and what I plan to do:

Installation of the S/C will most likely cause preignition or pinging. You will need to run at least 92 octane fuel - I run 94 octane. I also needed to install a TRD 160 degree thermostat. Why TRD? Try to find another 160 degree thermostat! This further reduce pinging and richened the fuel mixture.

Prior to installing the S/C, I was running a K&N FIPK air filter. I had to take it off because it made it run too lean with the S/C. I am using a TRD drop in filter now.

Under full boost the truck still will run a bit lean. To correct this, I plan to install larger fuel injectors, fuel pump and a fuel management device.

That's it - hope this helps. Check out Ebay for great pricing on superchargers now! Get really good tech advice from -
www.gadgetonline.com. This guy has done a ton of research on 4Runner mods and has one of the best websites I have ever seen.

Good luck!

any pinging problems with the supercharger? i've read it is a problem even with high octane.
also one guy's website said he had to overhaul his transmission after 75.000 miles
I really want to keep this baby forever. Another 25.000 miles on the life of my truck is worth not being supercharged. Should I be worrying about it?
