Question 2RZFE engine bolt straight to 87' 4Runner?

My 22RE engine has blown it's head gasket 3 times now at 190k miles... It's time for a new engine. I have the opportunity to replace it with a brand new 2RZFE engine from a 2003 tacoma. The specs say the 2RZFE is 2.4L so I was wondering if it would bolt straight in or if I would have to perform some mods? Anybody know?

Thanks!

they are the same displacement, but i belive that the bellhousings, and clutch/flywheel are different, also the intake and exhaust are on different sides, and you would need all of the engine management off the 03

Since you are in CA and the new engine is OBD2, you need EVERYTHING fuel related, engine, evaporative emissions equipment, complete intake, exhaust up to the Cat, wiring, computer, etc. I'm swapping 3VZ for a 5VZright now, which is mechanically easy as the bell housing, engine mounts and the like bolt up fine, and it's still a fair bit of work. Price out everything you will need. It adds up. Adds up quickly, too.

DON'T DO IT...

Keep the 22RE and build it to your specs. The motor will last a lot longer and be a lot stronger. They don't make it anymore which makes me . Cheap bastards.
