4runner gas mileage

96 runner with 68k and I'm getting 250 miles to a tank and my bud with a 98 is saying he gets 300. Could there be this much of a diff or are the tank sizes diff or something? What are you guys getting for gas mileage?

mileage depends on speed

Do you and you buddy drive the same speed? I have a 93 4Runner. If I drive 65 MPH, I can squeeze 300 to 315 out of a 16 gallon tank. If I drive 70 or mor MPH, I get anywhere from 250 to 280 miles per tank.

wow.....in the city i get about 100 miles out of my 99 v6 limited

maybe its because i have a bad habit of givin it 15-20 minutes to warm up....

i dun get it though.......my gas light turns on with almost 6 gallons left in the tank?

when is it supposed to turn on?

TSB EL010 addresses this. 1999's and 2000's had this issue where the light comes on early.

Mine comes on with 2 gallons left.

Scroll to the bottom of this page for more information on it.

I've assisted with installing a new gas tank and its internal items with a friend on his 2000 4Runner, as the old tank was mashed in from rocks, but also had the inaccuracy problem. It probably took us around 5 hours and wasn't necessarily easy. Sounds like you can still push a dealer to take care of this for you.

I have no idea. From what I *think* I recall reading, though, the dealer should still be able to do it anyway. Of course, most of those threads I read last year, which would've been the third year on the 2000's warranty. So, I really can't answer this definitively as it never effected me. You might want to inquire on yotatech.com. You'll get a definitive answer there.

sounds like alot of miles per gallon ?

Hi there,

I see the miles quoted here and I am in shock... My 99 4runner LTD gets 14 MPG. I fill up after about 200-220 miles (when the light comes on) and it knocks if i don't put in high octane.

Even if I do have the light on early problem, I see others posting 18 MPG etc...I just wonder if there is something wrong with my truck? (other than it is a 6 cylinder)

Steve
