Disconnecting '92 4Runner Alarm

Does anyone know how to disconnect a factory alarm on a '92 4Runner?

I recently bought a used '92 4Runner from a private party and was told that the alarm didn't work. I later found out that the alarm is working but because there are no remotes there is no way of disarming it. Now when you open the doors the alarm goes off and the lights start flashing. The horn is also supposed to sound but in order to avoid this a previous owner just simply removed the horn fuse from the fuse box under the hood. The lights eventually stop flashing but in order to start the car you must turn the key to on, turn it off and then turn it on again.

It's an all around pain and since the horn is disabled is also unsafe. I don't need the alarm so I would just like to permanently disconnect it. Is there an easy way to do this?

Most alarms should have a connection to the ignition so the alarm is not on when the ignition is on...your description matches this fact...then it just comes to locating the wire in the fuse box which supplies juice to the alarm

if it is a factory installation, then your owner's manual should say which fuse goes to the alarm...if your controller says TOYOTA on it...it's factory...check your manual (I think most Toyota manuals don't have fuse assignments in the manual...they are printed on the box itself), and yank the fuse to the alarm...if the controller says something else, it was the dealer installing it with an aftermarket alarm and passing it off as factory.

Why not just purchase new remotes to operate the alarm? It's probably the RS3000 system which remotes are readily available for a discount price. I have two new ones available for sale.

Canada Alarm Problem

I don't know where you are; but why not run your vehicle down to Circuit city or preferably a little custom shop with a good reputation and see what they'd charge to yank the factory alarm out. While you are at it remote entry is pretty nice, I'd probably see what kind of 2-way alarm with remote entry you can get for a good deal.

If you are in Vancouver, BC I know a very honest well priced place that you could get it looked at... if you are not... then go on-line and see if there are any places like the above mentioned one that could give you some help. Good luck.
