Installing O2 Sensor on 2003 Tacoma

I'm getting a CEL and I took it to Advance Auto and they put the computer on it and told me its the O2 sensor, Bank 1 Sensor 1. I found one other thread that had good instructions with pictures for replacing the sensor on a '96 Taco, is it the same process for my 2003? Do I need to remove the cover on the manual gear shifter as shown on that thread? What is the level of difficulty?

Anyone know the P/N for this sensor. Looks like URDUSA.com is 234-9001 and the Toyota P/N is 89465-39895. Is this correct?

There are these recommended Denso sensors, brand new, for about $80:

Here's a webpage showing the replacement process on a '96:

Thanks, Dave

You have a 2003. What engine/transmission do you have? Is it by any chance California emissions? 4X4? Your profile doesn't say.

2003 4x4 2.7L extended cab SR5 5 speed manual.

I've done some investigation since my first post and found out that it is a "50 states" vehicle (according to the dealer parts shop). The part number is 89467-35011. I crawled under and it looks pretty easy, the harness unplugs under the truck and it looks like 2 bolts hold the sensor in place. Does not look all that complicated but sometimes look can be decieving.

Price from Dealer is $206, price from URDUSA.com is $183 including shipping, at that price, I'll probably just go with the dealer since the .com will take several days to get.

Thanks, Dave

I hear that the nuts that hold the sensor in place can be a pain in the @$$ to get off sometimes. I would maybe spray them down with PB Blaster or something like that a couple days in a row beforehand before you begin to replace it, good luck!

that and you don't want to break those studs off, they are welded in.

I just replaced mine... It's pretty easy but lost of PB! I purchased new S.S. nuts to replace the old rusted ones.

FYI...There is a 10mm bolt that holds a bracket which holds the connectors. Remove this bolt and bracket to gain more room for unplugging the connectors. Well worth the extra 5 min.
