Buying 2004 Tacoma

I working a deal right now to get a 2004 tacoma prerunner 2.7L 4 cyl. I'm really new the whole truck world, I have been an import car guy forever and still kinda. I still have my 97 accord w/ an H22 in it.

Is there anything I should know about this truck and about this engine. Problems, things to look for, things to replaced to get some more power.

Also are there any other web boards that are just for toyota trucks?

Thanks

There really aren't any thing wrong with these rigs. They're as tough as they come. As for more power, you can get some new headers (check out www.lcengineering.com ) and exhaust and maybe a turbocharger.

Other boards you can check out are ttora.com, yotatech.com, 4x4wire.com and customtacos.com. These sites are filled with very knowledgeable folks who would be glad to give you more info.

Tacoma 2.7 4 cyl owner

I've been quite pleased with my 2.7 4-cyl 4x4, and I purchased it new. It now has 254,000 miles on it, and I've replaced the clutch because of a noisy release bearing at 212,000, and a water pump at 125,000 because I made the mistake of using the "green" anti-freeze instead of the Toyota "red" antifreeze, and the seal was eaten up. Other than that, I haven't so much as had the injectors cleaned, I haven't replaced the alternator, starter, fuel pump, or anything that normally will shoot craps on an American rig long before this kind of mileage. Go for it and ENJOY!
A note about supercharging tho - if you go that route for extra power, you'll also be switching to high octane fuel, so if you don't mind paying more money for fuel, no problem.

Perfect Choice! I currently own a 2001 2.7L PreRunner (auto) TRD package with 47K mi. -- no problems! I would recommend upgrading the tires. The stock Dunlop's are not the most durable tires out there. I should have a few thousand more miles left on them--but, unfortunately, I will have to replace them before too long.

If you wanted the added horsepower- go with the supercharger over the tubro. TRD makes a supercharger for the 2wd 2.7L autos for about $3000-but you can find them cheaper. Be sure to upgrade the headers and exhaust too...
