Lowering Spare Tire

Hi all. Recently bought a 2001 Tacoma. I was halfway through removing the rusted-through exhaust when I realized I needed to take the spare out to allow wiggle room. The previous owner only gave me the male side of the lowering key/tool, however.

Could someone please let me know if this will work for me? The link says it's only applicable to vehicles made after 2010, but it appears to be the same fitment, from what I could see under the bed.

If the above link doesn't work, then perhaps this kit? (3rd tool from bottom)

Any websites where I can buy the single tool at a cheaper price? I'm not having the best of results with my wording/search phrasing.

Thanks for your help.

I put a spare tire security device on my tacoma that used an attachment like the one in the first link, good to know that I can buy another if I need one.

On a oem style spare tire it should only require the long handled crank that came with the truck.

It may be that someone installed some type of security device, in which case you'll have to get a good look at it and try to buy a matching doohickey.

Once the tire is down, the security device should be pretty easy to remove if you so desire.

Sorry I can't be of much help, maybe get a picture to post up?

Tom
