$1200 for 3 motor mounts and timingbelt/waterpump job???
Aight, so I went to Goodyear today because after I got my car back yesterday when they replaced my front drivers side axle I still heard a clunking sound. They looked at the new(er) axle and deemed it bad so they re-replaced. I go to leave today and the car still clunks on acceleration! They kept it there all afternoon and told me my front, rear and dogbone mounts are shot and thats what's been causing the clunking all along , not the bad axle.
They quoted me at $509.14 for the whole job. Front mount at $160.39 the rear at $179.28 and labor for that job to be $94.80. For the dogbone mount they want $43.07 and $31.60 for the labor. None of which includes tax.
I also asked what they would charge for a timing belt/water pump job since i'm at 66k and never had it done. They told me it would be around $600 not including tax.
So the grand total will be around $1200, which I think is rediculous. I asked if he would take $1000 cash and he said yeah, but it still seems high.
you might want to check your struts and struts mount first by pushing up and down on the car to see if you hear any clucking sound since this happend before on my dad's 99'avalon. The strut mount was found to be messed up. My 01'avalon front strut went out before and it had a clucking sound. My link stabilizer went bad yesterday and it made a clunking sound. hope you check all this first. good luck.
sounds about right, i just payed about 1500 at toyota for timing belt, water pump, trans pan gasket, a slew of other gaskets and starter contacts. it basically sucks

I'm fucking lucky I have access to a whole gamut of tools (my dad's) at home. Even air tools.
not too sure about the cost of the front and rear mounts, though the labor charge for both does sound about right
but do as sweptian says and either go buy a dogbone mount yourself and install it, or take out your old one, polyurethane it up and then reinstall it for even better than stock vibration handling
also though, just at thought, how much does your engine move when your press down the throttle while the car's in park? for your car to be making clunking sounds, your mounts must be neaer dead and have so much movement that your engine is hitting something or other....
and timing belt and waterpump? on a 4banger?
should only be about $300USD for all belts and labor then + $80 for a waterpump
you're getting ripped off to hell
you can problaby do that at the dealership for under 500
I would go get a second opinion on all of this if I were you- sounds like they may be talking out of their asses- your mounts really shouldn't be going at 66K either

tony
thanks. they checked that too and said it was fine...I know for a fact my front mount is shot as a mechanic at my old job in NY told me so, and so is my dogbone (it's cracked), but not sure about the rear mount. If they do fix all this and it still clunks i'll burn that fucker down!

I actually replaced my dogbone mount with an ebay one like 5-6 months ago and it's beginning to crack again.

Not sure how much it moves, i'll check tomorrow.
Yea I figured I was getting ripped. But I do think 2 out of the 3 mounts are bad because like I said I was told by another mechanic the fronts shot and my new torque mount is beginning to crack again.
If everything's correct I can get everything off of ebay for $285. Shop wants $382 just for the mounts! Thing is I don't know if they will install these aftermarket parts as it doesn't say OEM in the description.
That shop said they would not install my springs or rehang my Magnaflow because there are aftermarket.
I paid just over 200 I think for my t-belt and all other drive belts with an oil change... They said something like another 100-150 for a water pump too.. so well under the 600 that shop told you. 600 is Honda price
Just for reference, I had the water pump replaced on my avalon which is very similar to the Camry. Pump was $79 and total bill out the door was $320. He could have changed the timing belt (mine was pretty new) for about another $50. So like $400 tops. I think your getting hosed!

It is very possible that the reason your new dogbone mount is bad again is because the others ewre bad when you replaced it. NOw since they werent replaced it has damaged the new mount.
as for that t-belt and water pump replacement you are getting hosed. shop around and see if you can find some better prices.
Look for a shop that specializes in Toyotas around where you live. I know here in Nashville there are a cou-ple of them that only do Toyota and Lexus. Surely you could find one down there also.

^^yea i'm gonna see if they'll install 2/3 mounts if I bring 'em to them. I'll do the dogbone myself again. Will probably go else where for the t. belt & waterpump too, just wayyy to expensive.
thanks to all that replied so far
Also, are those ebay mounts I listed quality mounts? I don't want to order them and they crap out on me because they're not to OEM standards.
but good luck getting the shop to install them for you then
even if they do, they won't warrantee your work, since if anything happens, they'll just blame it on parts that aren't theirs
if you're worried, you may as well pay the extra hundred bucks and have them pick up the mounts for you, and then see if you can negotiate abit on the final price, then go else where for your timing belt, since the two jobs are different anyway
