Im not a fan of GM. My father worked as a mechanic for over 30 years for a local municipality where he had to oversee the service and mainteance of various GM vehicles, most 1/2 ton trucks and Caprice (and later Impala) squad cars.
In his own words, "GM made a good truck untill about '78 and they went downhill after that."
I personally dont like that GM is sticking with pushrod engine technology in their trucks. They could get the same power from a smaller engine if they went overhead cam and a smaller engine would get them better fuel economy.
GM is so afraid to make changes because they want to keep the customers they have, but they are losing just as many by not making changes. You cant make the same thing year after year and expect customers to come back. In the words of a GM engineer that I spoke to when I visited my aunt in Indiana last year, "The GMT-900 is going to be a great truck, but I fear that its too little, too late. We are very fearfull that Toyota is going to own us."

Toyota: Like other cars, only better.
It all depends. Depending what your going for. Their trucks suck, the cabs look super old inside and the window is to small, for makes the best truck. Chev's mini van is over priced. The sunfire and cavalier blow ass! You couldn't make me give you my car for a BRAND NEW one. I personally like the grandam, and grand prix's. And older gm's were amazing. We have a 79 firebird that the odometer rolled over, it rolls over after 999 999. So that engine put our toyota's to SHAME. But their newer car's suck for quality.
But then again look at the chev prism (is a corolla throught) and pontiac vibe (for those who don't know it's a toyota matrix), makes you think toyota and GM are in it together :p.
GM executives need to pull their heads out of their asses. Instead of finding other companies to invest in they need to invest back into the company. They seem to be always one step behind on their products. GM cars have no style. They need to appeal to the consumers taste and they are not able to do it. They're always chasing the consumer, by slapping a big engine in a outdated body and frame thinking that this will appease to the consumer. Obviously its not working and GM is sinking very fast. GM products suck and the only way I would buy one is if a company like Toyota takes over and builds its reputation back up to make it a reliable car manufacture again. If they were ever one before.

This is how GM is able to keep up with the consumers wants. Investing into another company to make a product that they cannot produce.
Damn... Ive always, always heard that perception is greater than reality, but damn.
Not trolling here, just trying to erase an outdated idea.
Seriously, I would recommend you guys check out the new GM products. The stigma of cheapness that most of you talk about is something that is reinforced by auto rags, but not the products. Look closely at a Lutz-era GM car -- hell, test drive one. The quality is absolutely on par with Toyota.
