Need opinion about skipping filter change

I've changed the first oil and filter at 3000 w/mobil 1.and now it has 4500 miles on it since the last changed it.Could I get by on changing oil only, this time and than it won't be so cold out, than change it again after 2000 miles with the filter this time.THX

Why not do it at the same time? Your filter will probably be on it's last legs by then, if not spent if you used a cheap one, and then you'll be wasting still-usable oil.

Changing the filter at each oil change is not going to break the bank. Besides, why run even the remotest risk of adding wear on the engine by not changing the filter at each oil change? Change it.

Don't think it's a money issue. It's just more time and effort in the cold. But I don't like not changing the filter either especially as small as they are these days.

What brand filter did you use? Fram, at best, is a 3000 miler filter on a good day. NAPA Gold/Wix, PureOne, K&N are 10000 miles filters, under right conditions. If the filter fails, you run a risk of running it in the bypass mode only, not filtering oil at all.

My preference is PureOne (used to be Wix but I can never find their stuff around here anymore oddly), but I've run Fram's to 5k without any issues at all.

Heck, then if it was me I'd invest in battery-powered gloves and still change the filter. Whatever it takes to keep my babies running their best.

If anything You'd be doing it backwards. if your using a good synthetic, you can get by with just changing the filter

always change the filter when you change the oil. It makes no sense to skip something so cheap and simple that is so very benefical to your engine
