No more Gold Emblem package?

Looking on Toyota's website, I see they no longer have the Gold emblem packages available for anything in the lineup. When were they discontinued? I remember seeing them at least a couple of years ago. They were insanely popular back in the '90s; I see many '90's era 'Yotas with them and my Avalon and our old '94 Camry had them and I think they looked great. Anyone know why they discontinued them or if they still have them in some regions?

Check with your local dealer. We still do them if customers request. Runs about a couple hundred bucks. They look gorgeous on the bronze metallic Venzas And even anything white/black.

Because it's no longer fashionable to do it.

They wear out pretty quickly and it's not real gold anyhow.

Actually, the way we do it is the emblems are covered with real gold. And it's very popular here. Probably 10% or so of our cars go out with the gold package on it. That's why we charge a couple hundred bucks for it.....it's not fake.

I'm personally not a fan of it. Also, they attract a certain demographic which likes to steal the badges off the car to pawn them

I prefer my silver badges. Well, what used to be left of my silver badges. I blacked 'em out with Plasti dip on my Avalon today.

I doubt they have any pawn value. The gold plating is flashed on at about .0001-.0002" thick.

Tell that to the people who actually do steal them.

I find it amusing that my aunt's Avalon has the gold emblem package. It doesn't even have power seats or alloys...it had to be special ordered to NOT have those options...but someone still paid extra for the gold emblems.

Gold emblems went out with chrome wheels as well, at least from the OEM perspective. My mom's old LS400 came with gold emblems (didn't care for them personally). Lexus did offer factory chrome wheels, along with gold and black pearl emblems as accessories. However, they don't do so anymore.

Indeed. I have a little piece of paper that came with my car that says how to take care of the genuine gold emblems and stuff like that.

I've seen them on many bare bones Corollas and Camry CE's. They're sold as an accessory, so you could basically get them on anything.
