2012 North American Car & Truck of the Year Nominees Announced
Quote:
The annual North American Car and Truck of the Year awards has just released its short list for 2012, selecting 17 cars and seven trucks that will compete for the prestigious prizes.
In the running for the 2012 North American Car of the Year are three from Hyundai (the Accent, Elantra and Veloster), two from Audi (A6 and A7), two from Volkswagen (Passat and Beetle) and two from Toyota (Camry and Prius v). Others on the list include two GM models, the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic, while two Chrysler group nominees include the Chrysler 300 and Fiat 500. Rounding out the list is the Ford Focus, Kia Rio, Scion iQ and Subaru Impreza. Notably absent from the list is the all-new Honda Civic.
The 2012 North American Truck of the Year short list includes just one vehicle from seven different automakers: the BMW X3, Honda CR-V, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes M-Class, MINI Countryman, Nissan Quest and Saab 9-4X.
The three finalists in each category will be announced later this year with the winners being announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Last year the Chevrolet Volt took home 2011 Car of the Year, with the Ford Explorer as 2011 Truck of the Year.

Truck? Yeah, riiiiggghhhttt. Whatever! Not a single one of those vehicles is a truck.
The Land Rover Evoque is not even based on a truck platform. It's a CUV so shouldn't it fall under the car's category? Funny how they list minivans under trucks......
None of those are trucks. Since Minivans and Crossovers are essentially the same thing (CUVs are "butched" up Minivans, IMO), they should be their own category.
As pathetic as the Pantyline is, it's still more of a truck than anything on this list.
Its more like a pantyline with some rips in it. Since Honda is going down a path of oblivion, the latest reports are they are keeping the car, of course that's the spin doctors say on it. They are selling such dismal numbers but they keep it. Funny, but if a sports car sales start to slip, out of here! Okay, I know generally a "truck" would have a higher profit margin but still, there comes a point where it costs more to keep and justify the sales of a very, very low volume car.

I'd take that too. Such a BA truck.

I don't know the details about that. I know Ford did something about that. But I also heard owners were taking it beyond what it was designed for and then wondering why the frame bent.
Ford must have sourced the frame's from Toyota

Ford did not do anything anbout it except claim that it was an "Engineered safety feature" to protect people that use it beyond it's limits off-road.
Yet, ALL 2009+ F150's have that huge hole in the side of the frame just above the bump stop for access to the mounting bolt. This is where the frame is bending when the axle hits the bump stop.
I guess claiming it's a safety feature is a lot cheaper than fixing the goof.

Oh. Thanks for the clarification.
